What do the vertex say about the relationship?
This male (born 2 mars in Halmstad 1974 11:35) friend has his 5th house vertex in my 7th house in Scorpio. And I (born 3 feb in Stockholm 1974 09:28) have my 6th house vertex at the beginning of his 5th house in Libra.
Any suggestions/comments/thoughts about that?
Thanks,

Hej Sielou! My feeling about the comparison of the vertex in synastry is that you should find an actual point that makes contact to the vertex, or anti-vertex (the point opposite to it) it will give you a clue as to what kind of energy that 5th and 6th house possition will give you. I notice that although I don't have a close conjunction of Juno (at 13 degrees 07 Taurus ) to the vertex in synastry to my husband's (its a few degrees off) his Ceres in Taurus is conjunct my anti-vertex... sugesting a definite fate involved. (18 degrees Taraus and my Vertex at 17 degrees 22 Scorpio in my 5th house) (his Neptune is at 20 degrees 31 Scorpio which may make an aspect) HIS Vertex is at 6 degrees 50 Scorpio in his 6th house nearest to my Psyche 8 degrees 33 Scorpio.. I don't know if its really close enough to be in an aspect though but it FEELS like it is. So my question to you is: Are there any points in aspect to those Vertex points? Does it feel like there are certain areas of life that are "fated" to be in relationship to the 5th and 6th houses? Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way, but I'll add another example, My Mother in law. Her conjunction of Cupido and Bacchus exactly sitting on my Vertex.. She charmingly encorurages me to drink and when I said "nej tack" to more wine, she jokes and says something like, one should never say no to more wine.. ..I'm going to post her chart and synastry to mine soon! J Hope this has been helpful. sfinxen (not exactly that "svenska" especially compared to the rest of the born swedish here)

Thanks for this Svenskasfinx! It was exactly what I was going to say. Sielou, look for conjunction or oppositions to the Vertex within a degree or so. That, in the synastry chart, will tell us something about the relationships and only then does it really "fine focus" the degree of the sign and the house that it is in. The Vertex is not a planet and doesn't have the same "energy". Where we might look at, say, his Jupiter and what house in your chart it falls in, we don't (usually) look at the Vertex that way. It is like a Node, and a very intense focal point at the DEGREE in which it falls. Let us know if you have synastry contacts here and I can elaborate. Warmly, Kim

I have my vertex conjunct someone's DSC (2 degrees). Kim, it's the same man whose Eros and Psyche are on two sides of my chiron/eros conjunction in 10-11 degree pisces.
we talked online for about two months before we met. we met as friends. but there was this whooooooooosh! of HUGE chemistry/familiarity/tenderness/communication when we met. so much so that it kinda scared both of us! and the wierdest thing was that we both felt as if we'd known each other forever.
his moon is conjunct my north node. my Juno is conjunct his south node. my sun is right on top of his MC, and his sun is two degrees away from my DSC. I'm still mulling this relationship. don't quite know what to do with it. it's... a complicated one!
I've also had vertex contacts with virtually every man I've had feelings for, or major dynamics with. though I don't exactly know yet just HOW these vertex contacts effect us.
Kim, how DO the vertex contacts function? is it like the whole nodal connection thing? as in Karmic stuff? or some other way. this is a great topic! many thanks!

There is basic Vertex information on my site that can answer this question to a degree. www.nrg.com.au/~d-falcon/Eros.htmI think you have to consider the contact to your Vertex like a transit--an activation. This means that in their way (by house and sign and aspect) they are going to light-up your vertex and impact your life. Re-read the story of Vertumnus. There is a deep and intricate meaning there. The vertex is a turning point and anyone who touches it is going to do just that...turn our heads. Maybe they will even turn our lives around. Warmly, Kim

Thanks so much for all of your contributions ! I can see here that I have my mars at 17.14'57 Taurus opposite his Scorpio Vertex at 21.24'48, squares my Jupiter and is quite near my Erato. And his mars trines my Vertex, and squares his DC. My vertex is nearly opposite his Cupid. That is what I can find (for now anyway).

Hello everyone! I feel a little left out on the Vertex synastry...the only main aspect I found at the moment is his 5th House Vertex 4 degrees 20 Leo exactly conjunct my 9th house Vesta 4 degrees 20 Leo. Pretty EXACT I think...but is it strong? Please write your thoughts...
The only other thing I see is my 8th house Vertex 14 degrees 48 Cancer opposing my name asteroid (Kathleen) at his eleventh house 13 degrees 12 Capricorn. Hmmm.....there must be more....my Cancer Vertex conjunct his Cancer Mars...that sounds a little scary! Eeps! Or maybe not so bad in my 8th house! ;D
I will read up on the Vertex article in the meantime....
Thanks for any insight you may have-I always appreciate the replies with answers that help me learn.
Take care-

Sielou and GemStar!! both of your Vertex synastry have Mars in them! I can imagine that this is a very very driving source of energies in BOTH of the comparitive charts.. Wow I can imagine that it does feel strong either way. As for the other things, anything on the axis point between the Vertex and anti-Vertex is going to be felt..almost like a magnetic attraction (and even on occasion a repulsion as in the mythology on Kim's site) It is an interesting mythology to study, as well as the idea of studying the myths of the astreriods on those personal points. it gives most often a feeling of predestination.. think about it, svenskasfinx

Now briefly looking at the 'midpoints' for his Vertex...his Vertex midpoints have quite a few conjunctions with my planets-Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, Neptune, Psyche. All very tight orbs. But this is using the midpoints....not much else from his Vertex. Does this count? I will look at mine next.
Thanks- GemStar

This is all great exploration into the workings of Vertex synastry. Just keep in mind that orbs for midpoints are no more than 1. to 1.5 degrees and aspects are of the "45 degree" family conjunct, opposed, square, semi-square would be a start. You can look at the "90 degree dial" option on your computer program under "midpoint sorts" if you have one. If the Vertex/planet/angle midpoint of one person is activated by a planet or point of another, you do indeed have a "valid" contact to consider. It's going to say something about how one person "effects", stimulates, goads, pushes, compels or supports another in terms of that midpoint. If the Vertex is involved, then it is going to have something to do with "change" on the road to becoming who we are! Perhaps check into the "midpoint" thread to read more about these degrees of the zodiac. Warmly, Kim

i read something recently comparing the nodal axis to the vertex. it said something about the vertex being similar but it doesnt retain past memories or whatnot.
"The Vertex is not a planet. It is an intersection of the ecliptic with the prime vertical (Nadir) in the West. In an astrological Chart, The Vertex always appears in the Western Hemisphere of the chart, usually through Houses 5-8. Because of the location of the Vertex in the West, the nature of the Vertex is about the 'relating' principle. The house the Vertex is located in your own birth chart will define the types of relationships you seek or draw into your life and how you utilize the principle of relating in all of your relationships.
When people you meet have planets conjunct your Vertex or visa versa you will see something special about them...and you do not usually forget the person. There is an instant connection on some level and for some specific purpose. The nature of the relationship can be intense and have a sense of fatedness. It seems that the Vertex attracts important or fated people and events into our lives. Examples: If ones person's Mars is conjunct (the same astrological degree) your own Vertex you will probably think that person to be very sexy/sexual and connected with their dynamic energy. The may either incite or excite you! When a person's Saturn is conjunct your Vertex, they may be somewhat 'stabilizing' or offer some sage advice to you. You may look up to this person for the discipline, lessons or structures they bring into your life or visa versa. We do not always welcome the lessons or Saturnian energy one brings to a relationship.
I love using the Vertex in chart comparisons and compatibility. If you look back to significant people and events in your life you will find connections to your Vertex and Anti-vertex, the point opposite the Vertex. In some ways the energy seems to be similar to that of the nodal axis...but the Vertex, unlike the Nodal axis, doesn't store past memory or talents and abilities. It serves to draw the necessary people, events and learning experiences into our lives. When it does those people and experiences are significant in some way, as indicated by the house placement and sign. There is a fated quality to these contacts."
i share a mutual antivertex aspect with my friend gordon. my mars is cap 4° which conjuncts his antivertex at cap 5°. his mars at scorp 1° conjuncts my antivertex at scorp 2°. i think this adds a definite gut level sexual chemistry to our interaction...i'd describe it as corny as it may be like little electrical currents under my skin when his skin touches mine. i'm definitely aware of him. as far as houses go, my antivertex is in the 1st and his is in the 2nd, so his mars touching my AV constellates more of an energetic reaction in me i think, whereas i probably affect him in more of an earthy or grounded way (2nd house). i'd look at the condition of the house, too, for more insight...like for instance, the cusp of his 2nd house is sag, and jupiter's in the 9th house. the cusp of my 1st house is libra, and my venus is in the 5th. that should offer more insight to what kind of reaction one might have to someone coming along and stimulating your vertex/antivertex. look, too, at the aspects that the ruler of the house makes...and so on. it could get pretty complicated and confusing, but taking it piece by piece helps to see the many layers that play into the nature of our interactions with each other.
hope that helps, dar, sielou, et al.
sincerely, c

Thanks for the information--all very insightful. The Vertex is like a node, mathematically, and when we get a transit (from a planet or a synastry planet!) something usually "happens", inside or out! It really does shake us up and "turn our heads". Kim

I was interested to read that transits to the vertex may signify very important events, etc. and found that
1. the day my died died, (rather suddenly,) transiting Sun was on my Vertex exact. Traditionally the Sun signifies the father, so this was a little freaky to find.
2. the day I was married, T Mercury was exact on my anti-vertiex (or opposing my vertex exact) Mercury is my husband's chart ruler!
3. when my sun was born, Jupiter was on my vertex exact. I was extremely lucky to get pregnant and give birth at all, due to some severe health issues, let alone have a healthy baby!
4. With my daughter's birth, (I think my Chiron/Eros really must mean having the "audacity to attempt" a second child) my anti-vertex was the exact midpoint between transitting Moon and Venus! I thought it was odd that nothing lept out at me right away, but then I realized that all the transits at her time of birth (one of those "falling in love" moments,)were midpoints, so I looked at the vertex midpoint and voila! And of course, with a daughter, who else but the Moon and Venus could be involved?! Well I guess Ceres could, but she was elsewhere in the chart that day...

Hi Kim and All! This is an interesting thread. Hopefully someone has some insight on this configuration: His Karma asteroid almost exactly conjunct (much less than a degree) my Vertex . Since Vertex is sort of a Karmic point, a turning point, when Karma, in a synastry chart, lands there, how is it activated? It seems like a potent connection. Any thoughts?? Thanks!! A.R.
