I honestly don't know what to make of this upcoming opposition in relation to my own chart, although therein lays a bit of Neptunian confusion... There's a lot of planets in my chart in the middle degrees of the fixed signs, so honestly so much is being touched, it makes my head spin...this has definitely been one of the most challenging years I've experienced in recent memory...my chart is somewhat similar to that of George Bush (oh joy!...I can't stand the guy): *our asc. signs are within four degrees of one another (both Cancer suns, Leo risings) *his Sun is exactly conjunct my Venus... *his Saturn is conjunct my my Sun (2 deg. orb)... *his Moon is exactly conjunct my Pluto (as is his Jupiter 2 deg. off)... *his Mars is exactly conjunct my North Node... *his MC/IC axis is exactly the same as mine... (there's more, but I won't go into it) Saddam Hussein took control of Iraq and established his regime the day before I was born (July 16, 1979), so the planetary degrees of that chart are almost identical to my own... I have to say, the tension and tumult in the Middle East seems to be occuring within myself as well (in a personal and internal way)...it's been rising within me since well, Bush took office... I'm finding everytime one of "rough" aspects manifests on the world stage lately, something equally poignant and "rough" happens to me on an internal level... As far as the Saturn-Neptune opposition goes...it'll take place in my first and seventh house...Saturn is currently about to conjunct my Mercury-Jupiter conjunction at 14 Leo... At the time of the opposition...Neptune will be exactly sextile my natal Neptune at 18 Sag...Saturn of course will be trine... My natal Uranus is at 16 Scorpio...so it forms a T-square with the opposition...(a grand cross if you count the Moon at 8 Taurus)...and trans. Uranus will be inching backward again towards an opposition to my natal Saturn...I so desperately want things to change, yet I fear the process of change (namely the potential for destructive, rather than constructive change).... I looked at my progressions and there's also some interesting activity worth mentioning...my prog. Venus will be at 17 Leo (conjunct trans. Saturn)...and my progressed Sun is conjunct prog. Jupiter at 20 Leo (also conjunct trans. Saturn)...not to mention my prog. Lunar Return in October... Honestly, all this astro. activity lately has made me absolutely exhausted on so many levels...and like George Bush, I feel way in over my head and can't wait until this decade is over... Thank you sooo much for creating thris thread Gem...I look forward with trepidation to how things will play out...I'm definitely clasping tightly to my own spiritual compass... Lots of light and love from me to everyone!

Gem, great thread! Jade: Ha, another Libra. I'm pressed for time, might be going away for a few days, but I'll check your granddaughter's chart out later! Jade... there is no coincidence...
Communism Neptunian? I visited East-Germany shortly after De Wende, and there was nothing Neptunian about communism, not even about the original theory Marx explained in Das Kapital, which we had to read for history lessons in the seventies. BO, I'm curious where this may lead you. Aqua, glad your son lost weight!!!
I've had Saturn on Uranus in 7 for a long time now, and this is the first time in 27 years I've been without a sexual relationship, searching for new equilibirum. I need another way to express Uranus in 7 then push and pull, something way more interesting, honest and authentic. Richer, freedom in interdependence. Having my dad back in my heart helps tremendously.
Saturn-Neptune will take place in the 7-1 axis. The end of August sees Sun/Merc/Juno on my Sun/Pluto midpoint, Uranus opposite Sun/Mars midpoint, Mars on Eros/Mercury/Mars. Venus on my Vertex. Saturn square natal Venus/progressed Mars/SA Pluto at 17/18 Libra, Neptune trining it. Progressed Juno at 17.5 deg Gem completes the Grand Trine at 17/18 of the Air signs. Jupiter at my NN, transiting to my MC (a good job???) Progressed Neptune at 18 Sag in 11. The other and me seems to be the theme here, which fits my mood of getting to know me all over again. AND I'm into politics again, which did not interest me for a long time, although I've always liked discussions. The journalist in me waking up. Mars is on transiting SN for all of us, and Pluto squaring it. Can't say I'm optimistic about global developments.
Love to all! Juliet

Lunariviera, You make me smile.... *his Sun is exactly conjunct my Venus...Yes, thank God you don't have to kiss him!! But I noted around the time of my daughter's (and your) birthday it seemed overshadowed by so much world stuff.....heavy stuff. Yeah, that spiritual compass will guide you alright. I'm relying on the same thing.... Oh, I'd love to give him a kiss alright...the kiss of death!!! (I mean that in the nicest possible way if any Patriot Act voyuers are reading this)...

This is a really insightful thread! Thank you! Saturn-Neptune oppositions occur about once every 36 years (yes, Saturn orbits the sun every 29 or so years but Neptune keeps moving so it takes a few extra years for Saturn to 'catch up'.) There are strong associations with pandemic casualties, world leaders falling and national boarders shifting during these contacts (particularly in Leo-Aquarius where we have the 'King' verses 'the society') Here are two interesting articles from StarIQ on the topic: www.stariq.com/Main/Articles/P0006402.HTM (world leaders and events) www.stariq.com/Main/Articles/P0006854.HTM (pandemics) This transit will sextile and trine my Mercury at 18 Gemini in the 10th and widely conjunct my Juno/Pluto in the 12th at 22 Leo ...I'll have to give that some thought! The square in 1980 had me agreeing to marry. The conjunction in 1989 saw the end of that! More soon. Kim

Hey everyone....Sure looks like there is a lot of action going on in most of our charts with this Saturn-Neptune opposition!! Excellent posts!!!! I am still searching for the article with charts that I read this past weekend and I can not seem to locate it! Do you ever do that? Google something then wander off into sites way off the beaten path from where you started?? Ugh. Anyway....because this transit is basically happening on all four angles/points of my chart for me, IC/MC/ASC/DSC, perhaps it has contributed to my sensing of people's 'break-through' opportunities within many people's lives. I feel sensitive about this energy yet do not have a particular issue for myself which I feel I am unaware of handling. Does this mean I am doing the 'work' as Saturn requests of each one of us? I think so....maybe this pattern in the sky is for the many people who need dissolution of structures which are no longer viable. Structures which some have chosen not to deal with or face head on!! Here is another link below to an article which, though lengthy, gives some nice examples and explanation of events from the past involving Saturn-Neptune. An excerpt: The Saturn-Neptune cycle forces us to examine our beliefs and how our institutions are honoring them; systems that are failing can suddenly crumble; others can be torn down and remade, stronger. By temporarily throwing the big picture into sharp focus, these two planets open windows of opportunity for societal transformation. Under their influence, the most powerful forces on earth can change hands, for better or worse. planetwavesweekly.com/parallel/articles/heavy_water.htmlPlease continue to reflect on this upcoming event and as you gleam new thoughts and insights, add them into this thread. I find Neptune so nebulous at times, however, see this as an opportunity to understand how Saturn can come along and provide more clarity where we need it!! Write on...... Hugs- GemStar PS-It thrills me that so many people are getting some benefit from this thread and the information which is being shared!! Hopefully this all will help us be better prepared in case greater things unveil themselves in our lives....and in the world.

Thanks for starting this thread, Gemstar. I've been thinking about this a lot and considering starting one myself!
My chart is similar to Aquarianessence for Asc/Dsc - this transit falls right on the line. Saturn will hit my Uranus (14 Leo) then Asc (17 Leo) then Moon (18 Leo) - with Neptune, of course, sitting on my Dsc and Chiron (18 Aqu). My love life is very confusing! I have a new man in my life, *sort of* (how Neptune!). He's a Leo (Sun 15 deg). He seems more interested in being with me than anyone I've dated in a long time, but he's currently away for the summer (keeping in touch and will visit soon) and will definitely move away in 2 years. Could I move, too?? I'm being so unrealistic about the situation, but that's Neptune, too. And maybe I just need to dream a little...
Jupiter is transiting my 4th house now, and will square my Asc/Dsc and Moon again. My social life (particularly gal friends) is very active. Tr Jupiter is also now conj my prog Jupiter.
Meanwhile I've started this full-time job and my time is no longer flexible. That's Saturn. Nice to have it move out of my 12th, but what happens next? And will Saturn threaten my little 7th house dreams? Or bring them to earth? When Saturn hits my Moon it will also trine my natal Saturn in the 5th (which squares my Sun).
There's so much going on! I'll need to read the links you guys have posted when I have more time. Thanks for them!!

this is what eric francis has to say about this transit, from this week's newsletter.....
AUGUST is a momentous month in the cosmic history of the Earth. Two of the most influential planets, Saturn and Neptune, meet in an exact opposition, which happens once every 35 years. We've been seeing the effects of this developing astrology for well over a year, since Saturn entered Leo in July 2005. But the precise meeting of two planets in a long process always brings something new. This can come in the form of events or psychological thresholds that seem to focus the events of the past few years; which reveal their nature; or which serve as a personal threshold in the creation of a new life.
The opposition is the "full" phase of a cycle that began with the conjunction, or "new" phase, in 1989. Consider what a big year that was for you, for the people in your life, and for the world. What did not change that year? How have the events from that time influenced your world today? Now, the story continues. It does so well into 2007, as there are three exact meetings of Saturn and Neptune. The exact dates are August 31, 2006, February 28, 2007, and June 25, 2007.
I'm sorry I haven't gone through and read through everyone's thoughts on Saturn-Neptune opposition... I've got the gist of it all and it looks like everyone's having breakthroughs already... I like the thought of this being about 'where the outer limits of the personal meet the collective' and as this moves through my third and ninth houses (neptune in 9, saturn in 3) I feel this rings very true.
thanks for this thread! joy, pm

Here is an excerpt from Janet Kane's news letter....She's a Jungian analyst and astrologer in Washington DC:
If you want to subscribe, go email me and I'll forward the info to you:
This month we have a very powerful and rare transit of Saturn in opposition to Neptune. This aspect will be exact on August 30th and 31st, but it will be felt all month. These two planets are totally incompatible and the opposition is a stressful aspect. Saturn is the symbol of the reality principle; it rules the tangible, down-to-earth, pragmatic view of life. Neptune on the other hand is the planet of the imagination, the infinite, and the transcendent. Neptune believes in a Utopia, it rules denial - "everything will be fine." Saturn says, "get your head out of the clouds."
Watching Saturn puncture Neptune's illusions this month should be quite entertaining. Gore Vidal calls the America, The United States of Amnesia. "Well", says Saturn," its time to wake up". This aspect will affect all of us on a global level. We are undergoing collective disillusionment . The trance is being broken.
Neptune also rules Oil,"lets just keep buying Hummers and we'll find more oil somewhere". Saturn may bring in a more realistic view of our natural resources; "guess what? they're limited."
On a positive note, during a Saturn opposite Neptune we can discover which of our dreams can withstand the scrutiny of reality and get to work to make them happen. A positive manifestation of Neptune happened last week with the release of the movie "Lady in the Water". Neptune rules movies, fairy tales and myths. This film is an adult fairy tale. Here Neptune is using her gifts of imagination and idealism to bring us a powerful message through her favorite medium. Joseph Campbell would have loved this movie, it is filled with symbolism and mythic themes. Check it out. ..

I'm still trying to catch up with everyone's posts here. One thing that's been driving me crazy is that there is all kinds of information out there about what Saturn-Neptune means in a global sense, but not a lot on what it means when it hits personal areas of the chart, especially very critical areas. A few of these links have some personal notes, but most are larger issues - well, Neptune especially is and Saturn can be, esp. opp to Neptune.
Maybe we just have to wait and see what it means personally as it plays out? Or are there more direct bits about this opposition's affect on personal areas?

Hey Everyone...thank you for the additional excerpts!! Just as I have mentioned in previous posts, when we see a larger transit such as this in the sky, the effects are seen worldwide...and personally. Even if you do not have these two planets transiting in your chart like a 'personal transit', you will see it's effects around you. For example....One of my dear friends, who lives in Los Angeles now, called me and told me his girlfriend of 3 years has moved out. She moved to Los Angeles when he moved there for an executive position in May....she followed and today she is permanently leaving. Her illusions in this relationship had to do with her changing him to wanting marriage with her. He has stated he will never marry again...yet, she has hung onto his position and wealth as something of importance to her. He is not in love with her...and has never been. She has been in love with him.....and it seems that reality is sinking in with her that he will not continually be the checkbook for her life nor in love with her either. Her Neptunian illusions are being shattered by the reality that weekends will not be spent driving up the coast...or jetting off to Palm Springs. Saturn reality-He has taken on a very high-level position as a trouble-shooter and is working 14 hours days. My friend does not have the time to be away while he is getting things under control for this particular company. He told her and even I had mentioned this to her, but...sometimes we have to find out for ourselves. The hard way. If you read carefully, many of the posts here have mentioned personal things happening...or things which have opened a question for themselves. I know that I can feel it in the air....and for myself, this opposition may be helping me let go of my illusions about my father. And perhaps, accepting the reality that he will never see me as the valuable person/woman I am. It just is.....and I have been unwilling to accept this because I do not want to believe it. By clinging onto this 'hope' of mine that he will treat me as well as my brothers, I often hold myself back from simply being 'pleased' for MYSELF. Does this make sense?? Anyway....I too like to read of the personal affects of this Sat-Nep transit during this time and do encourage everyone to continue to post with new introspections and stories!! Hugs- GemStar

On a light note I met a young man at a hostel I was spending the night in to attend a talk and he told me he had given up smoking 50 a day cold turkey 2 years before The next day my Leo son told me he was stopping and so far he has gone cold turkey too no problems I am putting that down to Saturn in 12 discliplining the Neptune in 6 tho I wonder what made him do it....... Now my Aquarius son who is disfunctional with both money and drugs has Mercury in Aq in 8 and nothing in Leo in 2 so I am nervous to see if any shit hits the fan for him during these opps He has used up about 13 lives so far I have been told He is generally lucky having Sirius on the cusp of 1 For me as a Leo it is frustration and brick walls all around

Hey Jade.... In response to your thoughts of ' How can you not change in nearly 20 years?'.... (Referencing Eric Francis statement above). Change is inevitable in our lives....change around us....change of circumstances, relationships, friendships etc... However, some people hold onto things which have changed but the person has chosen to not 'see' those changes. They might delude themselves into believing "If I do not acknowledge this, it has not happened" kind of mentality. Sorta like the head in the sand theory. Ex. A dead marriage. Each person sees it how they want to see it....but often do not make the changes to 'live' again....even if it means letting go of the relationship (marriage). How many people have you heard say 'Oh, my first marriage was 20 years long, but it really ended 12 years ago'. How people can choose this way to live in marriage is beyond me. Yet...they do. And for 20 years, do not make the change. In many ways, our parents came from an era where change was not really considered a positive event. They did not question the 'Rules' that much...they accepted WHAT IS (meaning-what they were told to believe) as the final answer. We, however, DO question the answers. Seeking to discover if that final answer is the BEST answer! Not accepting just any old explanation is part of our growth as a generation! How great for us...yet confusing at times as we are ultimately breaking through the old traditions of passive involvement. Not to say we are so ambitious either....plenty of various lethargy is alive and well out there! I think that if each individual really looked at the difficult times in their lives, and owned a piece of responsibility for their growth at that time, change might be easier to swallow. Many people 'do' the same cycle time and time again. Relationships maybe are experienced with 'different' mates but the same problems/issues arise over and over again until the person CHANGES. That is an example of what I feel Eric Francis was referencing. Look at the miraculous growth you've experienced throughout your Life Jade. It is ongoing for each of us and perhaps, astrology gives us a better leg up by providing further definitions of these changes!! Thank goodness for Astrology-I would be lost without it!! Hugs- GemStar

Thanks for everything you all have written here!
The opposition is taking place on the midpoint of my Pluto/Jupiter conjunction and MC/Moon/Uranus conjunction in the 9th and 10th houses.
I wrote elsewhere about the profound changes taking place within my professional life and self-concept. Difficult in many ways, but one I have unconsciously been working towards for quite some time.
Another personal positive manifestation of this opposition is the slow unveiling of the new relationship my husband and I have forged since his cancer was diagnosed and treated. All the for the better.
Around me I see people who were so enamored of President Bush wondering where their hero went.
Just 2-cents, Amoroso

Hey Amoroso....thank you for reminding me to look at the midpoints...(although this opposition lands right on all my angles-isn't that enough?)...hmmm. Well, I can check them anyway..... As I had mentioned earlier, the tension out there in the world is building and feels palpable to me. For those of you who are extra-sensitive (Neptune aspects-natally), you are probably 'feeling' a variety of energies amongst people. Strange how this board/forum has been quiet....more quiet than usual. Are people thinking and being more introspective at this time?? That balance of truths and illusions is one in which we have to decide what to do with the information that is revealed at this time. What is it revealing to you? I have another guy friend who has buried himself underground this week and no doubt facing some of his own realities of Life. As a friend, it is difficult for me to let my friends figure things out for themselves....I sooooooo want to help. However, all of us are on our own journey (or 'ride' as a dear friend calls it) and often, we each must go it alone. This is how we learn and grow...without holding anyone's hand...and hopefully we learn to 'let go' of control and trust in ourselves and the decisions we make. As new things are revealed to us at this time, I think this opposition calls us to continue to grow and reflect on the path we are walking NOW. Whether it is within your marriage, within your relationships with your family, your children, your occupation...wherever. Finding solace in our chosen realities can especially be 'peaceful' as we let go of anxiety we often create by worrying about the future. That slow revealing of Life is often a pleasant surprise....and had we been told the destination too early, a valuable learning lesson may have been thwarted!! This is certainly an interesting aspect in our skies and combined with the other strong aspects happening, keeps us on our toes!! And opens our dream-filled eyes....if only for a moment..... Hugs- GemStar

I've been reading/scanning through all the posts in this thread and am struck by how dynamic this transit seems to be for everyone already -- it's really triggering a lot of soul-searching, isn't it? That may be why the boards are quiet, Gemmi. There's so much rich thoughtfulness here, where does one begin to formulate a personal response? One thing's for sure -- there's change afoot. I think that Saturn & Neptune trigger each other so much in opposite directions -- esp. in an opposition -- that we experience that "somethin's gotta give" breaking point, and rapid shifts can consequently take place. I really look forward to hearing more from everyone as the exact opposition nears! I've been reflecting on its placement in my chart in relation to what's going on in my life right now, but still just only bits & pieces of insight have come. Saturn's in my 11th, Neptune in my 5th exactly on Pholus, and the opposition will be exactly trine/sextile my natal 7th-house Vertex and exactly inconjunct/semi-sextile my 6th house Chiron. They'll also be square my natal Pallas & Juno. I'm currently navigating feelings I've never had before in a new relationship that's finding its legs, and push has definitely come to shove with respect to making money in a new way, which I'm compelled to do via a writing/teaching project I've been dragging my feet in pulling together. I'm challenged to once and for all pull my voice together to give birth to book #1 so that I can get out there and start giving seminars and begin coaching. The topic pertains to health & diet. I have such a clear vision of my purpose in this regard, what I want to do and how I want to reach a very large audience, one-by-one, and that seems to be the vibe that Saturn & Neptune are activating. I think about the love aspect of the 5th-11th polarity, tho -- balancing an idealized affair of the heart with being friends & moving toward common, practical goals together. To me, an ideal combination. And that's what I'm wanting with this very new man in my life. Keep sharing how things evolve, everyone! I delight in reading your sharings!!!! There's a lot of sunshine on the other side of this transit -- it's gonna poke holes through a lot of resistance and darkness, I think! Sami
