Hello Everyone! I thought I'd give you a heads up. HarperCollins is giving away some copies of my new series, Quantum Enchantment. You can put your name in the hat to win a new release copy of The Spell of Rosette. (Out officially January 1 but she hits the book stores next week! If anyone wonders what I've been doing over the last five years, this would be it. www.voyageronline.com.au/community/competition/default.cfmYou can read about it in depth at the Quantum Enchantment Portal: www.kimfalconer.comAnd if anyone is interested in how I started training in the art of the Samurai sword, there is a blog on it here. voyageronline.wordpress.com/2008/12/09/the-way-of-the-sword-kim-falconer-blogs/I'm going to be blogging there over the next few months on everything from the Hero's Journey to how different rising signs initiate sex so check it out and please feel free to comment--it's a shy group there and a bit of warmth would be grand! As you can see from the cover layout (the zodiac glyphs) and the QE website, there is a lot of astrology woven into my speculative fiction--particularly horary and draconic. I thought of you all as I wrote so let me know how you find it! Writing is only half the process. The work is not complete until it is read, re-visioned by the reader. I'll keep updates on any giveaways or discounts posted here. You can get a copy from anywhere in the world. (It's going up on Amazon.com/UK and Japan.) Thanks everyone, especially those who emailed their support and encouragement over the last year, or two...or three.... You're all like best friends and it's great to share this with you! Warm wishes, Kim

Great news, Kim. I already have a copy on advance order from Booktopia. Wish it was available locally here in the USA, but this is the next best thing.
I can't wait to read your book! :-)

Oh I am so excited you're going to be one of the first to read! You HAVE to tell me what you think (especially while I'm still revising books 2 and 3)! I think Booktopia will ship on the 16th, giving you some cozy winter reading! Thanks Aphrodite! And here we are online at the same time again! Did what I thought of the horary make sense to you? I guess it's one we are about to find out!!! Best, Kim ps currently Booktopia has the best price for overseas shoppers atm. www.booktopia.com.au/the-spell-of-rosette/prod9780732287719.html

Hi Kim, this is great news, I'm really looking forward to reading this, it's showing on Amazon here in the UK. We can't order it yet, just sign up to be notified when it's available. Which I've done! I'm set up to review books on Amazon so I'll definitely be reviewing this for you!
Looking forward to reading the blog too, I'll definitely contribute.

Congratulations Kim!
I can't wait to read it myself! I was so impressed with the excerpt that I saved it to my flash drive and took it to school so my budding author student could read it too. I will definitely order it when it becomes available in the US. I'm writing a book myself, but I haven't done much writing lately (in the past several months, only a page here and there and some background notes).

Thank you Pam for the support and encouragement! It means a lot to me! And you showed your students? That's the best compliment ever. I'm trilled. It will be another year or so before it's licensed for US release, it is available internationally from online bookstores or direct from HarperCollins. I'll let you know when it appears on Amazon.com. Thank you again for the feedback! Warm wishes, Kim

Ariesmoon, that's great you can get Rosette from Amazon UK. I think it will be a while before she's actually released there (they do a whole new print of their own, new cover etc) so good thing you're getting your copy now! I love that you will review it too--I can't want to get your feedback! That really helps me as a writer. Ohh you too Aphrodite--I am looking forward to chatting about characters, plots and intentions! And the astrology in there!!! lol Thanks for your support everyone!

Oh Kim! I love this stuff! The last book series I read was Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I went to one of his book signings in Las Vegas and met him, listened to him speak. Sooo.... The tone of your book series sounds very much like his - ALL THAT AND ASTROLOGY? I'm so stoked!
I think one of the things that helped The Sword of Truth series was the audiobooks. A lot of people don't have time to read anything over a 100 pages at a time, but have lots of time to listen to audio books while they multi-task. Also, an audiobook option implies that the book is top ranked, probably in the top 100. It comes across as a subtle recommendation. It may not be true, but with limited time to read, most people would choose the top ranked book over one that no one spent the time or money to promote.
One of my favorite audio renditions is Harlan Ellison's version of Le Guin's Wizard of Earthsea. It left me breathless. He made it real! The book was exciting, but when he read it aloud it literally came to life! There is just something about reading text aloud (as you know) that confirms whether the story is working properly or not. Once the audience connects with the print version and then hears the audio the clamour begins to see it on the big screen, as well.
Please strongly consider an audio series. Even if the publisher won't hire a professional, your voice is so wonderful that you could do it yourself. Rehearse a chapter or two and present the results to the company. It's a "no-brainer" don't you think?
Your fan,
Aphrodite

Aphrodite! Thank you for your insights here, and support, and for the wonderful compliments to my voice. It all seemed daunting until you said, practice a chapter or two and present the results to the HarperCollins. I can do that and maybe it will inspire them to get a professional too! My voice works pretty well ad lib, like when I'm doing a reading, but to actually read my work...not sure. I've an idea! I'll practice an excerpt and put it up on the site. You can listen to it and tell me if I A) need more practice or B) need a professional. Thanks so much for this idea. You really made me smile this morning! I will give it a go! xKim
