Mine is in Libra, conjunct my Sun, in the 11th house
Im an artist, passionate, a walking Juliet in terms of romance
I can think of one friendship in particular that for whatever reasons seems to have transcended ordinary reality. A lot of them have, though.

I have Sappho at 24°49' Libra in the 9th house Conjunct Eros at 0°18 Scorpio Square Moon at 0°56 Aquarius Square Asc/Dsc axis at 20°51 Capricorn/Cancer
I write poetry about romantic and metaphysical/spiritual subjects (venus is in the 9th, merc is in sag), I am ridiculously romantic (deep sighs are almost as commonly heard as sentences), I have an air of aesthetic refinement about me which can be alternately very attractive and off-putting (some take it for snobbery), but, then, my Venus is in retrograde (in scorpio) conjunct my sun, so... What else, - I definitely have strong desires to bond deeply, and tend to be inordinately empathetic (again, could be the 1st house moon semi-square neptune), I experience intense extremes in love, often expressing my love poetically or in beautiful prose, since I was young I've felt deprived of a "best friend" (though i have had close friendships, I never found my "brother"), so the difficulties forming truly close friendships are there, as is the loneliness (my strong saturn has much to do with that), and certainly serious trouble balancing intimacy needs with other areas of my life and personality (could have to do with the close Venus/Uranus conjunction in my chart, Venus in retrograde, Venus in the sign of its detriment, Eros square Moon, and/or Pluto squaring the Dsc).
hope that helps!
peace, hsc

Sappho holds a prominant place in my chart at 29Libra in the 3rd
Conj Venus 27Lib-Ceres, 28Lib-Hekate 0Sco-PO spirit,4 Saturn & Atlantis,5-IC,7degrees
The weeping involved being taken away from my mom, judged as an unfit mother because she was in a lesbian relationship and we had lost our home with her job and were living in our car or with friends for a short time. She has Sappho 24 Scorpio opposing Sun 1* with Ceres in Aq at the apex of a t-square. Her mother is the one who reported her unfitness. It took her 4 years to get us back, and of course now, she wouldn't loose custody for sexual choices. It is also interesting that her and her lover were many years apart and referred to each other in mother-daughter terms. Both had poor mother relationships. Her Eros was trine Sappho and opposite my Mercury.
I don't know what time she was born but sunrise puts her Moon at 17 Cancer, exactly trine to where transiting Sappho was when she began her 13 year relationship. She was also married twice before and twice after this relationship.
It's interesting that my current husband has his Mercury where her Eros was, his Venus in the 9th is where her Sun was, his Vesta is conjunct her Mars which is also my step mom's Moon degree. My progressed Venus has just turned Rx here at 0 Sag, bringing back these memories and astrological reflection. Jupiter, dispositer of her Mars was in late Capricorn showing she needed a man to be more patient, especially with Saturn in Aries, also not too far from my husband's Saturn. While we have no issues in the sex area, I have had to learn patience with him in other areas. That was the last thing his dad told me before he died, be patient with him. Her Venus is also the same degree as his Sun, 19 Aries, which is antiscion my Sun.
I hadn't realized how much they had in common before. She died before I met him. My first husband of 28 years had much in common with my dad. When mom died my marriage began to disolve. I'm sure this is significant, but not sure how or why.
Regarding her placement in the 3rd of siblings my closest in age brother had a sexual experience with the manager of apartment where we lived in 3rd grade. He resents it but said it was a pleasurable experience.
My youngest brother, not my mother's son, is gay. He has all his planets in feminine signs except Saturn 0Aries, Venus 14 Aries and Moon, 12 Aquarius. Sappho is at 7 Pisces conjunct Mercury in the 5th. Sappho is antiscion his ascendant. I've wondered often if same sex relationships are a way of learning how to love self. When my step mom what carrying him she discovered her best friend was after my dad and they had a rendezvous planned. Mercury disposits his Pluto conj Uranus in 11th and Ceres who is conjunct Dike in the 9th. I guess that means that 9th can also represent a half sister's other parent. The north node of Sappho is at 0Sag (there's that degree again) conjunct his point of homosexuality in the 2nd.
I wonder if, by converse progression, when he gets to the point where this thing happened with my step-mom and her best friend, if he will change his sexual orientation. He said once, that Demi More is one person that could turn him straight. He had gotten to know her well when he was involved with the beginning stages of the first restraunts started by Bruce Willis and Staylone. Spelling is probably off here. My dad had some lessons to learn in the area of bigotry, which he has. He was so judgemental of my mother and his own son is gay. My Pisces brother has far outdone my Aquarian dad in humanitarian contributions although my dad has contributed also.
My Sappho is at the midpoint of Mars/Pluto, Capricorn and Leo. The tears of shame during childhood, and caused by ruthless behaviour of my first husband have been turned to tears of joy through my relationship with my current husband. I have experienced a sence of oneness, like twins, even, with him. I think Sappho can also relate to bonding with the opposite sex, the feminine in the man with the feminine in the woman or visa versa. She was conjunct my Urania-Sun in Virgo when I met him and this is antiscion to his Moon-Sun in Aries. This midpoint also shows that I must sense the Sappho kind of bonding to have a fulfilling sexual relationship. I didn't have that fully in my 28 year marriage but do now.
His Sappho is a couple degrees conjunct my south node. I've wondered if Sappho can also show twin soul connection. It is conjunct my Hebe. He loves to have my coffee by the computor to greet me when I wake up. My enabeling with him has only been positive.
As far as the artistic nature, I did perform always with a partner, mostly a girl but also with a guy, singing and playing my guitar during high school. The songs were 29degree types, "Bridge over troubled waters", "Where have all the flowers gone", "Sounds of Silence" etc. While I was comfortable with my girl partner, I felt like such a good singer with the male partner. He had such a beautiful professional quality voice. I only sang alone once, and it was not good. The chords and song were very difficult and I screwed up.

Juliet I think I read that those strong reactions to not being true to yourself happen if you have the awareness of the importance that you are doing it Some folk kid themselves but are in a fog and do not understand the importance.... I have Mars/Sappho8/ Uranus 16 Gem rising and am hetero very artistic write verse easily do therapies and run workshops for women sometimes Like men who are like Oscar Wilde such as Richard E Grant and Hugh Grant and cannot cope with butch men at all as friends let alone partners.......

Wow, this thread really turned out to be a significant one. It is really interesting to read all of the different Sappho placements and modes of expression. It really caught my attention, so I decided to see where Sappho was placed in my chart. It was no surprise to see that Sappho is exactly conj my natal Neptune in Sag in the 2nd house, squaring my pisces sun and Juno in the 5th, opposite my vertex in gem. "Sappho signifies aesthetic refinement; the desire to bond deepl;y with or feel the same way as others, educations of females in the fine arts; emotional extremes in love; friendship needs; poetic ability; romatic and artistic sensitivity; same-sex bonding that exceeds ordinary friendship; the sensitization of individuals to their sexuality; sensuality; the sharing of aesthetics, artistry, interests and values...Inharmonious use of energy means difficulties in forming close friendships, loneliness, trouble balancing intimacy needs with other areas of the personality..." The desire to bond deeply is something I am definately not a stranger to--see predominately water chart. All of my relationships, romantic or otherwise, are often cast in the light of emotional involvement. Not to say that there is an obsessive overtone, which mayhave been present in some, but the need to know and experience others on a soul level is something I pursue without question or conscious thought. My relationships have included both female and male. For me, I appreciate the beauty in both. I also have venus in aqua, and uranus rising. I am sure that this adds to unorthodox relationships or unconventionalism, which I definately value. I am definately a sensual and artistic person. The sense of touch is very much the vehicle in which I experience and process the world around me. I am a massage therapist by trade and very much enjoy the ability to bring comfort and relaxation to those around me by using touch. It is cathartic. I find that I often become just as relaxed as clients. The peace, tranquility, and healing/soothing nature of massage has a calming effect. The ability to pick up how others are feeling, adds to its calming nature, as well. Massage is not only an artform that I enjoy; it is an outlet for the stressors in my life. I oftentimes become so infused and intertwined with people that I lose parts of myself along the way; only to find them replaced with more beautiful and expressive qualities. Creativity, art, poetry...these things speak a great deal to me. With a 5th house pisces sun, it is a way for me to transcend those qualities in various modes of expression. Although, at times, I find that creative expression and individuality and the need to transcend often butt heads. The need to be lost and the need to be myself is a war that I often find myself engaged in. There always seems to be a fated quality in every relationship. In each of them, I have learned something about myself that I had not known prior. My boyfriend has Sappho conj venus in the 11th (leo). He is a Libra rising. He is very artistic, refined, and enjoys beauty in all forms. His relationships with other women (friendships) are beautiful. He is caring, compassionate, and thoughtful. He and I have Eros (his) conj sappho (mine) in synastry at 24 Sag. For us, beauty and transcendence occurs in the mind and through sharing knowledge together. Sappho seems to have very similar archetypical patterns as Venus; aesthetics, beauty, appreciation of art. I'm having a hard time today expressing my thoughts accurately....anyone else having the same problem? Merc retrograde has definately set in.

Catching up on threads here and there ... Sappho is very interesting ... I'm not sure she indicates "same sex" anything but, as a few posts have alluded, she does seem to be a voice of female sexuality (at least in my mind!) ... My natal Sappho is at 18 Libra in the 9th, close to the MC ... trine Uranus (17 Gem 47) and asteroid Fama (17 Gem 57) in the 6th ... These trine (and energize/receive energy from!!) a whole slew of asteroids in 2nd house Aquarius (lotsa legs on this corner of the table!) : Pallas 17 Aqu 59 Ubasti (Bast, Egyptian cat goddess) 18 Aqu 2 Hilaritas 18 Aqu 26 Jung 18 Aqu 47 Tara (a female tantric deity known as "mother of liberation") 18 Aqu 55 OK, if you've got your mind around the symbology, take a deep breath and consider how this grand trine seems to have played out for me ... I was a founding member of a prominent feminist art group, which had to "do battle" with the male art establishment just to get women's work acknowledged ... My own art expressed a female perspective on sex in a satirical way, using anthropomorphic cat sculptures in archetypical situations ... And, not to slight Fama conjunct Uranus, my work received a good deal of sudden, unexpected acclaim and attention from the media ... Looking back on it all now, I wonder if Mme Sappho wasn't sitting up there on the top of my chart, orchestrating the whole thing, with me not the creator but merely a servant of the Muses ... j

That fits with Sappho very well, Jamma, especially being a feminist group. The reason she so often is prominant in the charts of same sex relationships being an issue is because of the reputation she had. She had quite a tight group of women and there were rumors she was a lesbian. She lived on the island of Lesbos, and this is where the word lesbian came from. So whether it was tru or not, the idea has stuck.

Several biographies of Sappho claim she had both male and female lovers, but since her work is left to us in fragments, we may never know. In Victorian times, it was thought that one of her poetic fragments pointed toward suicide by jumping off a cliff due to a man who slighted her affections, but in modern times the thought is that that is not what happened. Biographers are fairly certain she was an educator of young women, and may ahve fallen in love with one or more of her students.
As I mentioned earlier, my Sappho is at 28 Gemini in the 8th, the exact midpoint of my Sun and Venus. I have founded three arts' organizations, the first, a consortium of 4 female singing teachers who have pioneered the art and science of team voice teaching since 1987, the second, a women's chorus at a community music school, and the 3, a singing school for middle school and high school girls, based on the Venetian Ospedali of the 18th and 19th centuries. (music schools for girls who were in orphanages.)
For those of you who have followed my saga with C, his first name asteroid is conjunct my Sappho, and all you have to do is look up the Eros and Marriage thread to find out what that means!!! Also, interesting, because he was an adult music student of mine.
I am honored to be in such artistic company, and in the company of those who have founded other organizations!!!
Blessings, Amoroso

Is it possible for someone to tell me what Sappho 24 degrees Leo 12H, Conjunct Pluto, Square Taurus MH, and Sextile Mars Gemini 10th might signify? These are all tight orbs. Thanks!

Hello Waterman,
The most immediate way to understand or get a feeling for Sappho, or any other asteroid, is to first study the house and sign position. Think about how Sappho in Virgo might express...what kind of poetic, musical, sensual quality to you express and in what house (what area of life) is it awakened.
Sappho in Virgo in the 9th might really come alive during a long journey or foreign travel. Suddenly all the little things, all the fine details of a new place, feel imbibed with a kind of magical or romantic charm.
Sappho in Virgo in the 12th my send love letters to someone in prison! Sappho or discover a talent for music while recovering from a long-term illness.
Do you see what I mean?
Get a feeling for the basic house and sign meaning of your Sappho and then you can start to unravel how she may be linked to other planets, starting with conjunctions and oppositions.
Node, we can say the same for you (Sorry you post went unanswered!)
Sappho in Leo in the 11th house might be a member of a band, or other creative group. The sensual, performance nature of this combination comes out when working with like minded others.
Let me know if this makes sense and how you feel it applies to you natal chart.
Warmly, Kim

I like poetry and music, and sometimes i write poems, i write short storys... But the drop of inspiration always visits me once in two yrs, and it's not that i think my poems have something, they're very simple and i rhyme most of the time, it's almost compulsive... I also liked to keep a diary, but very unsteady... It could happen i didn't write for 3 months and then i wrote every other day for a month... Now i have a laptop at my place, it comes in handy... i type it here, so my dad can't see it... It's my ambition to once write a book, a family saga (how surprising, me being a Cancer) where's a lot goes over sex and relations (libra on 3 = relations/ partnerships and Scorpio in 3 intercepted= sex)

Thanks Kim..does it apply? well no, because its Leo 12th, not 11th. The 12th is an easily misunderstood house...hence the question. Maybe for me it might mean the release of creative energy through my work. Mars in 10th sextile Sappho 12th. I don't know. fire and air

Say, does anyone else have a 12th-house Sappho?
Mine is in Virgo, right in the middle of my chart "engine": sandwiched by my Uranus/Pluto conjunction, opposing my 5th-house Saturn, squaring Mars.
Curious if anyone else has a similar placement. Am mulling over Sappho's contribution to that configuration.
Thanks, Sami
