"I only know that I get ill or get accidents when I'm not being authentic and painstakingly true to myself, while other people can lie to themselves for years on end and nothing acute happens to them..."
Juliet,
I have been mulling your post, it struck such a sympathetic chord in me that I got a headache. I think THAT'S perhaps the crux of the 8th house. And I think a new thread on the 8th is in order, so I will try to get to that soon. I think the crucial key to living an 8th house Sun is how conscious one can become in the expression of the 8th through 12th houses, being mindfful that a huge part of the expression is in the erotic, with all the extreme pain and joy that that means. It is in the MINDFULENESS that I think is the key. But since I am just becoming aware of this myself, I am not yet able to verbalize what is lurking beneath the surface.
I am reminded of an old television commercial here in the States for Reese's peanut butter cups: A truck of chocolate and a truck of peanut butter collide and have a horrible accident. After the dust settles, in which the trucks are holding their heads in pain, they discover that the mix of chocolate and peanut butter produces a little bit of heaven. Point made.
There was a little hymn I grew up with as the daughter of an amazing man, a fulltime church musician, (whose Sun, Venus, Chrion and Mercury were all in 8th house Taurus.) Dad taught this to thousands of children over his 45-year ministry, and while it may seem conventional, the profundity of it keeps coming back to me at the oddest times, and makes me realize how much in touch with the dark side within himself my dad really was--
Yes! to celebration, Yes! to sorrow, Yes! to today, Yes! to tomorrow. Yes! to you, Lord, and all you send, Yes, Lord, Yes, Amen, Amen.
Now, Dad's view was very much of his time and faith, a Lord "out there,' but he was very much a shaman and didn't know it! I think the 8th house is the "House of Shamans," meaning having the energies available to collide, commune and collaborate with "the first house of the seventh," or the other of the other.
More soon, Blessings, Amoroso
PS. That is quite an intense and amazing 8th house, Juliet. You also wrote:
"There's a piece missing in your post: 'While I have an lifetime of'... Do you remember what you wanted to tell there?"
That's what I get for writing too fast. I think I was going to say that I have a lifetime of living out that Sappho as midpoint between Venus and Sun, but my Sun is trine my exact Chiron/Eros, and as I learn to live this out, it's table legs effect is to add the expression of the erotic. Falling in love with C was not part of the plan, but, well, that love has to be expressed somehow and right now it is through writing and many other things. Otherwise I would get ill or end up in the hospital again. So far, so good!

Addendum to my last message--
When I wrote "the other of the other" what I meant was, the 8th house is the first house of the 7th, or the expression of whatever union comes out of the seventh.
I am still learning to express these things!

Hi Amoroso ... If you are still collecting Sappho data, here's what I have: Natal Sappho 18 degrees 53'R Libra in 9th house ... ... trine Mars 21 degrees Aquarius in 2nd ... trine Uranus 17 degrees Gemini in 6th ... trine Pallas 17 degrees Aquarius in 2nd ... trine Hermes 17 degrees Aquarius in 2nd ... sextile Part of Fortune 18 degrees Sag in 12th ... sextile Vertex 15 degrees Leo in 8th ... square Venus 17 degrees Cap in 1st ... quincunx Moon 19 degrees Pisces in 3rd ... quincunx Mercury 20 degrees Pisces in 3rd But looking at my progressed chart, I can see why I may be yearning for a relationship but feeling confused about the "messages" (psychic and otherwise) I'm receiving: Sappho 6 degrees 19'R Libra ... conjunct Neptune 8 degrees 51'R Libra in the 7th ... opposite Mars 7 degrees 48' Aries and ... Mercury 8 degrees 40' Aries in the 1st *sigh* cheers, jamma

Thanks for this thread. I am learning a ton!
My eight year old daughter was born under Capricorn Sun and with her Leo Moon in H2, I thought maybe a Wall Street financier. No way baby. She has wanted to paint since she could toddle. She always announces that one day her paintings will hang in the "Met!" (NY) Metropolitan (now that's Cap ambition for you). This summer we travelled to NYC so she could see the Cezanne exhibit. Her Sappho is conjunct her Sun and Eros in the 7th House with Sappho sitting between the Sun and Eros.
....And guess what??
Paul Cezanne (January 19, 1839), and Henri Matisse (December 31, 1869) were both Capricorns too! Whoah I just found that out about Cezanne....spooky..
My Sappho sits at 25 Cancer 8th House right next to my Vertex. So both of those sit on Doc's 27 Cancer Ascendant.
I never thought I had water in my chart then I discovered my Neptune Water Singleton In Scorpio, my Pisces Chiron, my Cancer Vertex and yes Sappho. I think Sappho in the 8th which is empty except for the Vertex makes romance and artistry and big emotion (cancer) completely connected to sexual energy. But I feel secretive about all those feelings. Guess it makes sense in 8th!

Hi Blueorchids!
Well, I do not experience the 8th as secretive at all! There's so much in my 8th house that except for rulers of 7th and 1st, all rulers of my chart are in 8! PLuto 2 deg removed from the cusp. Intense, impossible to avoid and live, compulsive even, which makes sense if you know that Mars and Pluto are Scorpio's planets!
I've felt embarrassed about my passion in everything, was ridiculed for it, misunderstood, but I could never hide it. It is inherently me, but it took 'some' time to understand it. About 40 years actually! I hope I learnt to be more conscious of these forces, since I seem to be able to use them more constructively nowadays. I need to, otherwise nasty, negative 8th house stuff happens! Today nobody feels the need to ridicule me anymore! Do you feel embarrassed about your passion? Could you imagine giving it some form?
Blessings, Juliet

Dear BO,
I think the "secretive" aspect belongs more to Cancer than the 8th, but I would agree that Sappho in the 8th is very passionate, sensitive, poetic, (as a way of being and relating as well as artistic sensitivity,) interested in transforming self and others through nurturing, bonding experiences. The energy might have to move backwards and sideways within you for awhile before it is ready to venture out (Cancer!) and that's what probably feels secretive about it.
Sappho in Eros' own house in Cancer's sign would be a very magnetic energy--it would add a certain amount of charisma to your personality and need to be expressed somehow, as Juliet mentioned.
I have read and thought a lot about the real Sappho and all the myths that have grown up around her, as I feel she is really important in my chart and the chart of my whole family. She had the amazing ability to express the bittersweet nature of Eros. The actual Greek word she used translates to "sweet-bitter," which is so very descriptive of Eros. In a tradition that was largely oral, she knew how to mesmerize her audience with certain combinations of vowels upon consonants--she was very aware of the sensuous and persuasive properties of breath and language, and knew how to use them. I feel we have lost much of this magic due to the written and read word and mass communications.
I was so interested to read of your daughter's Sun conjunct Sappho conjunct Eros! Wowie zowie.
Thanks for picking up this thread!
Blessings, Amoroso

Hi Juliet, Wow! That's a heck of a lot of 8th house action!! I guess there are no secrets with or without "8" stamped on it. Interesting on the passion issue. I wish I could say I have been ridiculed for my passion--it tells me you had/have the courage and gumption to display it. I have been told that I have an Aries imprint on my chart. Eros is holding hands with my Mars and my Moon is also in Aries, Venus Taurus H5. I have some kind of heat in my soul but I am just beginning to get "it." I think having a Gemini Sun and Mercury and then a Venus trine Saturn keeps some of that "passion" diffuse, tamped down. It spills out in creative work, language and writing...etc.. Thanks Amoroso! Yes I think the Cancer placement is fueling the secretiveness. Yes my little's one chart is wowzaaa. She also has a stellium in 8th house. I adore her she is an old soul-so many gorgeous shades of my long gone mother and grandmother. We get each other. My young son's Sappho situation: In Scorpio in House V 23 Pluto 23 Sappho 23 Mercury Yes all at 23! He also has his Eros and Psyche in Scorpio widely conjunct. 12th House Mars sitting on his Cancer Ascendant. His Venus sitting on his descendant, but that's another fascinating puzzle for another time. LOL. Both children have Cancer Ascendants.

Hi Amie,
Your membership is up and running now--welcome to the forum.
These are very interesting comments on Sappho/Moon--and that Saturn transit opposite in your daughter's chart. Saturn through the 7th and conjunct Moon/Sap is going to really get her in touch with what IS nurturing to her in socially significant relationships, and what is NOT!
Sometimes, it is not so gentle!
Thank your for your posts!
Warmly, Kim

Sappho ARI 6 in the third house Conjunct Chiron (Aries 2) Trine my Moon/Neptune (Scorpio 28) conjunction in the eleventh Sextile Mars (Aquarius 4) in the first Opposite Uranus (Libra 7) in the eleventh Trine Vertex (Leo 12) - Now, I’m not sure about this one either as I know that the orbs between asteroids need to be tight. Between Sappho and the other planets I used wider orbs as I do generally. I know the Moon/Neptune - Sappho is quite wide, although I feel it works. Amoroso- I know you had so kindly talked to me briefly about my third house Sappho, and how, yes it does express her energy in my third house !! Yes stage actor that I am. I feel that the Moon/Neptune contact is valid though. I do on occasion, get film work as well. And actually, my most successful stage performance was that of a mentality-ill woman who got mis-diagnosed with schizophrenia. Interplay between Chiron and my Moon/Neptune valid here as well I think. I may be getting way off track with this, so any help to a newbie, from anyone would be VASTLY appreciated!! As for the rest of my aspects...I do not know enough as yet to give my own impressions. I’m just reading the forum and asking questions! Thanks, SSG

Just briefly, SSG, when it comes to the VERTEX, I look at conjunctions and oppositions within one degree--same with Fortuna, midpoints or other Arabic parts.
Then, look at your tightest orbs. Sappho opposite Uranus is going to 'dominate' Sappho sextile Mars, and the trine to Moon/Neptune (which is such a different energy to the strong WILL and urgency of Mars/Uranus) might be too nebulous to feel much from, unless you had a strong transit to Moon/Neptune (like Jupiter crossing or Neptune square!)
Do you see how this works?
Think of the aspects, for a moment, as a river. In the center, (the closest orbs) the water (energy) runs deep and swift. Out towards either shore, in the slow moving shallows and eddies, there is not such a strong, direct and relentless movement (intention).
And also, we can think of aspects as table legs. If you 'do' one planet (say you experience a poetic epiphany through a romantic encounter--Sappho) it is like picking up a table leg. All the others come up with it! You get Uranus, Mars, and even in the background, Moon/Neptune!
I hope this helps. Warmly, Kim

Hi all!
My Sappho is suffering from my Saturn because he is standing behind her and trying to regulate her!
First of all I'll tell you a few things about myself just to put you in the picture. I have started my student career with architecture having the intention to study interior design later on. Unfortunately I was redirected to spacial design, than I have swiched to graphics design and now I am studing business, actually I am finishing my business studies this year. I met a guy who kicked my imagination again and I handed in my application papers to another university to study graphics design and photography again but very far from my home country.
Everything what i am doing is art related and somehow in connection with aesthetics...
And now here are my planetary positions:
Saturn 26 Leo 15 5th house Sappho 26 Leo 58 5th house Venus 9 Vir 50 6th house Mercury 23 Vir 36 Demeter 29 Vir 29 Vesta 29 Vir 59 Hera 5 Lib 10 Sun 7 Lib 24 Psyche 11 Lib 54 Pluto 13 Lib 49 North node 15 Lib 26 Pallas 17 Lib 22 Desc 18 Lib 7
Having all these female asteroids in my sixth house makes them a day-to-tay issue in my life. Gaining additional power from the Sun, Pluto, Saturn, Venus and Mercury they shine brighter nad influence all possible areas of my life. the constant search for beauty somes drives me crazy. i cannot approach anything in a simple way. For example cooking can be interpreted in many ways but in my case the food has to be colourful, in harmony with the interior and my mood as well. The selection of wine for dinner takes me more than half an hour in order to harmonize it with the dish.
Refering back to Amoroso I have to mention about the same sex bonding that I have kissed all my girlfrinends and there was a time when I really tought that I am bisexual... But I am a loner, and prefer to be alone..
regards,
Gaby
