The most common rule out there is to ignore the signs and houses. My software only calculates the asc, all other houses are the same degree. I can't ignore the signs or houses. I say if it proves to be relevant then it is. We could calculate all the cusps by hand. This is how its done.
You would first have to assign numbers to all of the degrees of the zodiac, starting with the first degree of Aries as number one and ending with the last degree of Pisces as number 360. Then, you will have to give each planet a number, depending on the degree it happens to be in. It gets more complicated. You have to put in the minutes and seconds of arc as well.
Then you choose the harmonic that you want to examine. What next? Multiply ALL of those planetary position numbers by the number of the harmonic. Good luck! Oh, were not finished yet. Most of the numbers you will get are going to be over 360, but there are only 360 degrees in a circle. You will have to subtract 360 again and again until you get a number that is less than 360.
I think it should be close enough to just use the minutes. My asc. 17Leo13 would be 137.21666. Multiplied by 9 for 9th harmonic is 1234.9499. 1234/360 is almost 3 1/2 so i must subtract 360 x 3. So 1234.9499-1080=154.9499. This is 4.9499 Virgo which matches the software calculated asc of 4Virgo55 pretty close. So just do the math for the other cusps and see if it seems relevant.

Just a quick question....if 9th Harmonic is supposed to use equal houses, why would you bother to do the calculations by hand when you can simply use Astro.com's chart? Maybe we can find further data on the Harmonics and why/why not to use the houses....there must be a reason. However, I am all over the relevant idea...if it appears relevant...than it IS! Thanks for the hand calculations...though they made my eyes cross and my head spin!! What else about the aspects were relevant for you Aquaessie? Hugs- GemStar

Further exploration into the 9th Harmonic charts gets us into the Vedic astrology world. Here is another brief concept of how the 9th chart can be used: Harmonic Charts
Vedic astrologers use harmonic charts as part of their basic chart analysis. Harmonic charts (which are called vargas, amshas, or divisional charts) are calculated by dividing each sign into a number of sections and assigning a sign to each section. In Vedic astrology, the calculation of some of the harmonic charts differ from Western methods.
The Vedic use of harmonic charts is unique. Each chart represents a different life theme, such as career, parents, spouse. Analysis of that chart supplements the information about the life theme given by the natal chart.
For example, the navamsha divisional chart (identical to the Western ninth-harmonic chart) is the sub-chart that indicates marriage. This chart is evaluated alongside the natal chart for marital compatibility and timing. A difficult navamsha chart might reflect conflicts within the marriage, or divorce, or the inability to find a partner. In the navamsha chart of Arnold Schwarzenegger, it's clear that he wouldn't easily find a stable relationship; he married for the first time at age 38.
The navamsha chart has many other purposes, including assessing the second half of life, the strength of planets, and the quality of a person's self-expression. Since divisional charts change much more quickly with shifts in the birth time than natal charts do, they are also routinely used for chart rectification, which many Vedic astrologers perform. www.soulhealing.com/ApproachingJyotish.htmHugs- GemStar

Wowweeeee Gemstar....keep pumping that good info out! Fascinating!!. This comment makes me wonder if one might use the 9th Harmonic in synastry with a lover's natal: [glow=red,2,300] For example, the navamsha divisional chart (identical to the Western ninth-harmonic chart) is the sub-chart that indicates marriage. This chart is evaluated alongside the natal chart for marital compatibility and timing...[/glow] If so, I would be ridiculously amorously entangled with D. My 9th Harmonic SUN/MOON would be closely conjunct his NATAL MOON. My VENUS/NN/POF would conjunct his Natal Ascendant. My SN would conjunct his Descendant My MARS/SATURN would trine his MARS. My Neptune/Uranus would sit on his Pluto And finally, just for floaty fireworks, my JUNO would sit near his Neptune. As for what the 9th Harmonic aspects say about me? Well Gemstar I have to admit I hate looking at. Because the MC takes such a prominence (the exact same LIBRA as my natal) and it makes me feel like I shoud be doing grand and glorious things with my career which I do not ever think I am. I am often trying to juggle too many things at once and feel intrinsically like the children, household and marriage should always come first. Yet I am at a point where the children are doing brilliantly and I am desperate to move on from the current emotional/relationship framework. I doubt that's what a sun/moon at MC means...LOL.. But I note the reference to the chart being more about the later half of life AND marriage/coupling/joy. ..... In that context do you see in my Harmonic the amazing Venus/NN/Chiron/POF 19-21-22 ? it is square my MC and inconjunct Uranus. I want to have a life and a bond that focuses on healing and love and almost an extreme intense brand of intimacy. Cancer is so emotional, so much about nurturing and feelings. And my life with my children is about that especially the healing, sacrificing nurturing part. But gosh my marriage isn't. Anyway the weirdest thing in the world is since the last surgery in 2004 I have been increasingly more emotional and in search of opportunities to nurture and to be nurtured. I had attributed that to so many of my progressed planets (venus/mercury/sun)moving through my natal 8th house (ruled by cancer and housing my natal vertex and uranus which trines my ascnendant and moon). This 9th Harmonic is water heavy. I also just discovered through astrowin that the "planet" that has the most aspects in my NATAL chart is actually my very watery PISCES CHIRON........! PS---Note the 21-22 emphasis again!!! It is everywhere constantly in my life--staring with my birthdate of 5/21. Best childhood and current friend of 35 years lived in another town at 5112. Our first purchased house was at 5112. My son's birthday is 12/5 ..... My natal has that trine of (5th house) 22 Venus/22 POF/22NN. This Harmonic has Venus 21/NN 21/Pallas 21 !! PSS_- That MARS/SATURN? WTF is that about? I will tell you my whole life is zoom ahead, press on the brakes. The minute I get a head of steam about anything a brake screeching mechanism kicks in--especially around work. In all honesty, I think D. is the first step in my life where I have allowed a true naked free fall (that just letting go blindly thing)...

You're a real Gem. I guess I'm saying I don't think it should necessarily be equal house system. I don't look at all areas of my life as equal in focus. Some houses I don't automatically withouth necessity for a lot of time or effort. Other houses require more attention. So I think I'll calculate the cusps by hand and incorporate anything significant into the analysis. For example, the MC being opposite the AC feels like I could work with my husband, and I have. I loved it until when working in a factory together the guys started messing with us and our relationship. Perhaps it could also tell me my best work is on a one on one basis or involves the public. I love public speaking and one on one consultation, I've just never been paid anything.
I had added another post but something must have happened, it's not here. I calculated all the cusps of the 9thH and discovered 2nd/5th is square my sweetie's IC/MC, the 5th cusp, 2Leo keeps showing up in event charts, so now I know where it came from. The 6th is square my Sun degree and 9thH Juno which explains my problems in the workplace away from home. I already mentioned the south node is conjunct natal Medusa that always shows up when I get fired.
The things that are the most prominant are the yod whose apex is part of a fixed t-square and another fixed t-square in lower degrees. The outlet for both of them is the 3-9th so communications. My first husband would never talk about anything, the answer was always, you don't like it divorce me. My current husband is always willing to talk until we're ready to make love. What a refreshing change. If things have gottento the point that there is a fixed imbalance, its necessary to spend more effort in resolving it. It's also interesting that the lower degree t-square needs my input and the larger t-square involves Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. Wow. That's the one that matches my ex's chart so well and needs his input. That's the same empty house as in his chart, the house of communications. And the ruler of his 3rd, Venus is hidden away in Aquarius in the 12th.

This is such a fantastic thread and I've learned so much already...I was wondering if lunations impact the Harmonic charts in the same way they do the natal and return charts?! My 9th Harmonic Asc. is also opposite my 9th Harmonic MC, which puzzled me to no end upon first looking at the chart (it throws me off not being able to delineate houses)...but I really like the interpretation you've arrived at in relation to your own experiences...I definitely relate to the part about working with the public, but then again, my natal Moon is in the 10th...so that could have something to do with it as well!
