Mercury is definitely Rx - I just typed a new post here, then lost the lot, I hope I can remember what I said!
I was inspired by Kim's article on Law of Attraction to look at my Mercury, with the help of Lynda Hill's "360 degrees of wisdom" book about the Sabian Symbols. It's been very illuminating!
My natal Mercury is at 14 Gemini -
"Two People At widely Different Points are in conversation with each other by means of telepathy"
At first glance, telepathy seems anathema to a very logical Mercury brain, and mine has been very logical all my life, sometimes to the extent that I've overridden my intuition and done not what felt right, but what was logical. And more often than not, it turned out to be the wrong decision. I've always said I can talk myself out of anything given time.
People are always telling me "you're telepathic" - I'll phone them just when they need to chat, or they'll come into my head, and they phone me the same day. And I do feel I can send loving thoughts and guidance to people I love who are in trouble, I just know they will pick it up on some level.
Understanding this Mercury to me means finding the balance between the logic, which can be helpful and give me really strong practical solutions (it trines Saturn in Aquarius), and my gut-feeling and intuition. Mercury squares Jupiter/Chiron in Pisces and I've been conscious of a long struggle to reach a point of acceptance and faith (Pisces), and to embrace a more spiritual way of living my life. I'm delighted that I'm now achieving that balance.
Draconic Mercury is at 5 Aquarius -
"A Council of Ancestors has been called in to guide a man"
This symbol is pretty self-explanatory, talking of being open to inner wisdom and the guidance of spiritual elders. This is very much a theme of my weekly reiki-sharing group. I do love it when the natal and Draconic placements complement each other like this.
Thanks Kim for a great article, and for inspiring this post! I hope others will be encouraged to look at their Mercury in this way too!

Mercury is fascinating I have been sharing a house with a man who has it rising and watch the way he morphs into different ways of thinking and being when different people visit They are all him I guess Everyone does it to some extent But I did not realise at first that the person he was with me was not the default one Whatever that one is Peter Sellers is said not to have had a real personality at all It is like the character Camille in Red Dwarf who looked and behaved like the perfect counterpart to whatever man was with her But in reality she was a green blob But we do need green blob people to keep things in harmony and keep communication free of conflict

I have Mercury in the first house in Gemini with a late Taurus ascendant - I do exactly the same, I communicate in a different way to different people, I seem to be able to adapt to speak to them how they want to be spoken to. I'll also find myself picking up accents very quickly. I've been told I make people feel at ease very quickly.
Not sure I'm a green blob though! Love the description!

Hi Ariesmoon,
Now my Mercury is in Taurus and by all that one reads, I should be very boring, right? But I'm not. Number one: it is in my fifth house, along with Venus. It is also squared by my moon/mercury conjunction, and is opposed by Neptune. This makes me quite psychic and empathetic. I too take on voice inflections and speaking patterns of those I'm in communication with. Why? Because I have Mars in Gemini and Mars is both my sun and chart ruler. I even find myself thinking the way characters in good books speak until the effects wear off. I think that's more a function of the Neptune/moon/mercury t-square than anything else.

Interesting. I have Mercury in my first house, but other planets on my Ascendant, so it's not as prominent. Plus my Mercury is 0 Virgo conjunct my conjoined Venus-Pluto at 2 Virgo. Anyway, I looked up the Sabian symbols:
1 Virgo: In a portrait, the best of a man's traits and character are idealized.
Draconic is 8 Aquarius: Beautiful gowned wax figures on display.
I'm not sure how to interpret this! Is it a good idea to focus on the idealized traits and characters (are these mine or others'?) or a bad idea, or just what I do? (I also have Jupiter/Neptune sextile to this stellium, so I can idealize people). And the Draconic is also interesting in being a bit idealized, but also wax! -not exactly having any emotion and life in that!
Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi Ana, Interesting theory about Mercury in the 1st house. I was kinda with you up to the Peter Sellers part, who (by the way) does not have a 1st house Mercury. He was a Virgo, with Virgo rising. Sun & Mars in the 1st conjunct the Asc and opposite Uranus in the 7th house (4 marriages!). He also had Venus opposite Chiron. He was purported to have a difficult offstage personality, even abusive and unreasonable. Moon in Taurus trine his Sun/Mars conjunction... He was probably very comfortable with his personality and perhaps didn't give a shit to make an effort when it wasn't required. With Mercury conjunct Neptune in the 12th house, he instinctively knew what was called for in any given situation. He had the mental discipline (3rd house Scorpio Saturn), and the psychic/analytical ability to channel this energy whenever he wanted. This is what allowed him to effortlessly "morph" into any character at will! Sellers most definitely had a strong, even intense personality. He was phenomenal! Ironically, the only person who said he didn't have a personality was Sellers himself. We believe him because he wanted us to. How's that for force of will? Pam hit the nail on the head, though. Neptune (or perhaps Pisces influence) brings the ability to seemingly be different things to different people. In my case, it is Scorpio Neptune in the 1st house; and 8th house Mercury in Gemini square 5th house Moon in Pisces. It took a very long time to find ME and, even now, I'm not always sure about that. Hi 3rdhousenorth,
Couldn't think of anything useful to offer you. However, I have a list of the long version Sabian symbols with the original keywords. Perhaps the additional detail will help you?
0 - 1 Virgo: A man's head is revealed ; it is a portrait in which the artist has sought to idealize the best of human character. Keyword: CHARACTER.
I also have a second version... In A Portrait, The Significant Features Of A Man's Head Are Artistically Emphasized.
7 - 8 Aquarius: The fall-fashion display has opened in the fine stores and in their windows are beautifully gowned wax figures. Keyword: IMPACT.
I hope this helps! With Mercury/Venus/Pluto conjunct in the 1st you must certainly have a strong character and definitely would make an impact. I'm sure your idealization is an inspiration to those around you! Keep channeling the positive!

Keep channeling the positive! Thanks, Aphrodite! I think people see more the Uranus/Moon in Leo bracketing my Ascendant than that stellium buried further down in my 1st. But it does remind me that I need to watch out for being negative. As I was just looking for another book among my things I packed when I moved last summer, I came across my Dane Rudhyar The Astrology of Personality, with his Sabian Symbols. He offers this for 1 Virgo: "IN A PORTRAIT THE BEST OF A MAN'S TRAITS ARE IDEALIZED. The shaping power of idea or ideal over outer form and behavior. Completeness of realization. Pure aggrandizement. Intention." That works pretty well with Mercury (and conjunct Pluto, bringing in that power of ideas and intentions). Although this isn't about Mercury, since my Mercury is conjunct my Venus and Pluto (2+Virgo) I found the Sabian Symbols for 3 degrees Virgo really interesting: "TWO ANGELS BRING PROTECTION TO FAMILY IN THE WILDERNESS. Divine guarantee to man of supply of all his needs. Divine help when human efforts fail. Unconscious sense of strength." Well, human efforts have failed in my love life over 50 years , so I can only count on divine help! With transiting Pluto trining that stellium of Merc, Venus and Pluto for the next couple of years... Mercury retro is a good time to rethink things. And I was talking to someone yesterday who reminded me that Venus will be retro in March, a good time to revisit relationship stuff. For me, it's all tied together.

Hello again!
Sigh! I think from March forward is going to be pretty stark for D and me. D leaves for Iraq on the 1st, which puts him in a war zone on his birthday a week later. Saturn in the 7th of his solar return with retrograde Venus! Well, my solar return comes up in May with Saturn in the 7th for me, too - with Mercury retrograde. :-( Thank goodness we live in an electronic age. At least we can e-mail and talk via satellite. I'm hoping my natal retrograde Mercury can deal with the solar return and I think it can. It is retrograde now and I've been writing more than ever, making lots of mistakes, but catching most of them.
Aphrodite
P.S. Can you loan your angels to D to keep him safe?

Ach, Aphrodite, sorry to hear about all that. I think Mercury retro and Venus retro can be excellent times for going inward and doing lots of self-development and contemplative work. Just turns the energy inward, which is maybe indicated with your charts. Saturn is discipline and tenacity, but it's not scary. Anyway, keep us posted and we'll remember to ask our angels to keep an eye on him until he comes back to you.
Hugs.

Hey Aphrodite I did not mean to imply that Peter S had Merc rising More I was rambling on about Merc types which he surely was and having Merc/Nep in 12 sure accounts for the way he used the ability I read a book on how actors sometimes cannot put their characters to bed and continue with them in real life He was cited as a major one who did this to the misery of his families My son also does it and as he plays a lot of crims he has had to learn how to let go and not wear the clothes EVEN if he gets them for free after the shoot..... And good luck to your and your D too

Hi Ana, Ah well. I admit, you lost me there. That "staying in character" bit is a real problem for some actors. It makes them good actors, but the threat is losing essential parts of their own personality to be someone they are not. I get that. Guess I didn't get that with Sellers, though! LOL! D has a 1st house Mercury and I think he is brilliant. Actually, his 1st house is packed! He generally always makes a great impression on others when we meet new people. I'm always proud to be with him. Thank you for the good luck wish. Aphrodite
