Hello everyone, Before the new year I had written to an esteemed member of the forum, and in discussion asked a question, which I was pleased to know was received in the proper light. The member also asked why don't I post it to get some feedback from the rest of you that might want to comment. Although some time has past, I did want to follow up on the suggestion, and here it is.
"Most people that are well versed in astrology, have a good idea of where all the planets are at every given day/hour... except for the moon which moves so quickly. Even a rough idea what asc would be applying at a specific time one might ask a horary question, or am I wrong here? So then is it really a good idea to use this for potential divination? I am asking this truly in a spirit of real questioning and definitely not in a demeaning way concerning Horary. I hope you understand me."
Brightest Blessings, LeYeL

Hi LeYeL, This is an interesting question and I'm glad you brought it up ... if I understand you correctly, you are wondering whether, by knowing the planetary positions, one can pick and choose times for asking horary questions that will give predictable results ... I have wondered about this myself (although, personally, my conscious mind isn't up to holding all that info in place -- I still have a hard time remembering what is where in my natal chart!) Maybe those experienced with horary can shed some light here ... J

Thanks for this question, LeYel. You bring up a good point.
Personally, although I have been working astrologically for 34 years, I don't live 'out of the ephemeris'. I suppose I do know where the planets are at any given time (especially if I have had clients that day) but I have to 'stop and think' about it...calculate it, as it were.
It's like if you asked me how to get to the nearest bakery from Bangalow, I'd stop and picture the 'map' in my head, where the streets were and the best way to direct you. Are you walking or in a car? The Health-food bakery or the pastry shop? I have to 'access' the info, if you know what I mean. It's not an automatic answer.
AUTHENTIC horary questions are BORN at a specific time--one that rises up into consciousness from the well of the personal unconscious, or deeper in the depths of the collective 'soup'. You aren’t thinking about shopping for baby cloths on Sunday when you are in labour. You are consumed with the ‘birth’.
For a horary to be relevant, one asks the question when it is BURNING! I mean HOT! Burning fire! You feel the adrenaline, the sweat, the urgency...you HAVE to find the keys! You must make a decision on a property. You need to understand a choice. If it isn't burning, don't ask.
I was hinting at this the other day. How many times to we see the Moon last over Mars in a Horary? (it's not a requirement for validity, but it is interesting). We see it in charts frequently because it reflects the burn, the heat of the intention.
In the midst of the heat and intention and 'birth' (it is a labour!) most astrologers and students are not thinking, "HMMMMMMM wonder if the moon is void of course yet?" or , “Gee, Sag would be rising now, that mean's I'll get Jupiter as a ruler."
Do you see what I mean?
If you think unconsciously that you might be motivated to ask a question about relationship on the day you 'know' Venus is trine Mars, well, so what? I promise you that if it is an authentic question--welled up to the 'burning point' and about to be born, there will be plenty else going on in the chart to reflect the query accurately.
I don't know many astrologers who keep an accurate 'astro-clock' running in their head anyway. That's why we have computers and an ephemeris.
But your point is valid and I am very interested in what others think about this question.
I learned long ago to say out of the ephemeris in my day to day living---I 'let go' of readings as soon as I press 'save' or 'burn to CD'. I can't store all that energy and get on with my life! And ultimately I am much more interested in a day to day experience what life is like than analysis what the symbols of that life are like...
Joanne Wickenburg, a wonderful astrologer in Washington State taught me 25 years ago about this...someone asked her about setting up electional charts (that's when you plan a date for an event...which is what you are talking about here). She said, 'Don't live your life out of the ephemeris! Sure, note the phase of the moon and relevant aspects, but what you'll find is no matter how many hours you pour over that planned electional, (and she dose use them!) you can’t get things perfect. There is always a surprise—Pluto lurking somewhere, an interception—something.
What do others think about this?
Great question! Kim

Hi.. just a quick thought... ... there is a question that I've been wanting to ask for ages but am too scared to; will I win my property settlement? everytime I get even near to asking I think about what's going on in the heavens and I am conflicted! So I don't ask, because I'm trying to control the outcome of the question. Sometimes a little bit of information (such as where the moon is, or what aspects are applying up there in the heavens) can be a bad thing... pm

You just asked the question...18:36 GMT.
Are you going to look?
You don't have too. This one will answer itself in given time...but I realize much rests on it and sometimes it's better not to 'collapse the wave'.
Your call.
If you do looks, That's your day (when asked) your location, and the local time adjusted from GMT 18:36...
Let us know!
