Hi Cat and welcome!
This thread is to help interested students of horary learn how to read horary charts. I am new at this, but willing to give it a go.
However, there are a few things I suggest that we should decide upon first. If you are interested in reading the chart yourself, we should use the date, time and place that you asked the question. In that case, we need the date in addition to the time and place you mentioned.
In traditional horary, it is the date, time and place that the horary astrologer first understands the question that is used to answer the question. In that case, I make a note that I understand your question on August 29 at 6:41 pm in my town, state. A chart would be cast with this information, and that would be used to answer your question.
Also, do you know how to go to Astro.com and make a chart to post here on the forum? That would be helpful, too. I can create a chart with the information I listed above if you want to go that way.
Let me know and away we go!
Blessings, Amoroso

Hi Cat,
Welcome to the forum.
This is a great question to explore.
Just give us the date you asked the question (it's the 30th here...) and is that TN (USA?)
We'll get the chart up and have a look!
Kim

Juliet,
Thanks for posting the chart!
Cat, Here's my attempt to interpret your question. Please, please do not read anything into this until Kim or another more expreienced horary astrologer confirms or adds to it!! Thank you for being part of my learning!
Your ruler, Jupiter, is sextile Mercury, the ruler of your 9th house cusp. (higher education) This is essentially a yes to your question, "will I be able to go to college?" I hope this makes your happy!!!
However, the Moon, which also represents you, is sqaure your North Node in the 4th and square Venus. There may be some sort of major frustration or delay in regards to money for college or conflicting feelings about moving out of your present envirnment to pursue your studies.
Pluto on the ASC and in your first house is sextile your ruler and trine Mercury, which says that this is a MAJOR important, very powerful and very necessary thing for you to do.
Hope I am on track and good luck!
Blessings, Amoroso

Hi!
I'll give it a try too! And I ask you the same Amoroso asked you: do not read anything into this until Kim or another more experienced horary astrologer confirms or adds to it!
Mercury is separating from a sextile wih Jupiter, so that would suggest 'the' chance has passed somehow, for now. I like your ruler in 10 though, and its proximity to the Pars of Fortune. Do you want to go to college to improve your possibilities careerwise? If so, could there be another way of reaching that goal than going to college? Could it be that some money will come your way? (approaching conjunction Venus-Jupiter?) It is quite a responsibility to try to read an horary... So much depends on the interpretation! Best of luck! Juliet

Thanks Amoroso & Juliet for your interpretations--all valid points!
I find it so fascinating that MANY of our horary charts posted here to work with have the Moon last over Mars! I guess it shows the impetus to ANSWER the question!
There may have been some heated arguments, Cat, regarding your desire to go to college. Is there someone in 'authority' like a parental figure, that opposes this action?
Moon last over Mars and Pluto right on the Ascendant speaks of a kind of domination or oppression in the matter concerned. Pluto warns of complications and it can be isolating in some way. That the ruler of the house in question (the 9th) is approaching a trine to your Ascendant and to Pluto bodes well--once the complications are sorted out, I think you will enrol.
The Sun in the 9th is glorious! It gives a lot of energy to the idea of higher education and says that you will succeed in your goals--eventually.
Uranus in the 3rd suggests that you education was erratic, disturbed or interrupted. Is your schooling incomplete? Is there something you must do to get into the college of your choice (SAT's? mature age entry?)
Because the ruler of the 10th is conjunct your ruler Jupiter, you will overcome the difficulties besetting you now.
Notice the mutual reception of Mercury and the sun? This is KEY! The sun is in Mercury's sign (Virgo) and Mercury is in the Sun's sign (Leo). Now they can change places! This puts Mercury (9th ruler) in the 9th by reception --see how this works? It bodes well for going to college (we've established that college would be beneficial for you) though as Juliet pointed out, Mercury has gone past the sextile to your ruler Jupiter. Have you missed out on enrolment for the next term?
It seems there is a delay.
The glitch is the co-ruler moon square to the Ascendant ruler and the 10th house ruler. Are your parents or someone in control or authority opposed to you going to collage? Would it mean a major move from your current living situation to do so?
The chart seems to be saying that college would be GREAT for you--look how the sun is shining there! It is also saying that you will have to cut some ties or break some kind of bond to attend. Finances come into the picture with Saturn ruling your 'money' house and also in the 8th house of 'other people's money'. It's going to be hard, at first, to get the grant or scholarship or support you need to attend full time.
I think this is more than a question about you going to college. I think it is a question about your own independence, inner authority and sense of adventure. What stops you?
That the moon’s final aspects are the square to your ruler Jupiter and an inconjunct to Pluto (not looking at Chiron here) on the ascendant suggests that there is much to work out. You have to 'go against' someone or something to do this. The struggle, in this case, seems to lead eventually to victory though you might find that there is a great deal of hard work involved. (Not just academically)
The moon in her own sign, strong by house and Cardinal says that things will progress and you are NOT stuck. The outcome will not be what you expect (square your ruler-inconjunct Pluto) but the sun/Mercury in the 9th promises excellent results--once the challenges are met.
Perhaps you'll start out part time? Or you may have to delay a term before you can begin or do some other, preliminary, work before you can get into the classes you want.
Clearly, just going to college, being enrolled, is going to brighten up your life!
I hope this helps. We seem to have a "yes, but at what cost?" answer. That cost could be $$$ in nature or the challenge of leading a more independent life.
Let us know how this sits.
Warmly, Kim

ThankYouThankYouThankYou!! You all done a very accurate job. I want to go to college to better my job skills to get a well, better job. but I have not received a call from the financial dept. at the school (they said they would when they get it all figured out) and I haven't got that call yet. The orientation is tomorrow and I was seriously thinking about not going!(I'm glad I seen this first before making the decision ) I still live with my parents (I'm only 18) and they completely support my decision about going to college. The person that is the "authority figure" might be my cousin, she tried to discourage me from going to the meeting I first set and that really made me + my parents fuming mad but, I kept the peace. She didn't want me to go to my first college meeting for fear that she couldn't go to bingo (she's addicted) because she had no one to watch her son( I usually watch him or my grandma does, either or). That day was really stressing anyways and so she waited for me in the college lobby so she can make sure she got someone to be with her son so she could go. She didn't really act too happy. She was saying how she wanted to go there and enroll in some classes she could become a medical somethingorother and told me that what I was going to become will eventually be obsolete. Business Manager- how is that going to be obsolete?! ^ did any of that make sense? lol I believe she is the authority figure in this one. I don't understand the part about Uranus in the 3rd house. My schooling is complete but, I was really never good at some things, I'm afraid. Maybe that's what it meant. Sometimes I didn't go to school because of the stress it put me through. My illnesses that made me miss were psychosomatic b/c after I graduated, I haven't been sick only for very little. On another note, I believe that I might have failed the math part in my placement testing but to me, I'm really not worrying too much over that. So maybe the testing was what the placement meant. Mercury went passed the sextile: I did enroll in time but, financial aid is taking forever to get through. If it doesn't get back in time, I might have to go next term. I don't have to leave home since the college is just across the city but, my sister has to take me to and from but stated that it wouldn't be a problem. I was going to be a full time student because the full class day is just 4 hours long. Very small college. Thank You all for helping me with this bothersome question. It's helped me a lot! Cross your fingers for me tomorrow! Cat

I sincerely hope the only glitch was you almost deciding not to go to the orientation! I'm sure things will work out fine eventually, whether you have to wait till next term or not! All the best and I'll keep my fingers crossed.
