Okay, wow. I just did my demi for this year (nov. 22) and I have an exact natal ascendant return! (within less than a degree!) and MC too. What a surprise (you don't see those in the annual returns but a few times a life time and usually only by sign) Tell you what, if the next few months prove VERY important to me in the 'big picture', we'll know there is something to the demi's! Oh, you can also do quarter returns (when the sun is 90 and 270) and Enneads (40 degrees) Kim Kim, I have a quick question for you that's sort of unrelated to the topic at hand, but your post that I quoted above relates to it indirectly... I was looking at some of my upcoming solar return charts and I discovered something very interesting about my 2008/2009 return...the SR asc. of that year is in the same sign and degree as my natal asc. and my SR MC-IC axis are in the same sign and degrees as my natal chart as well (I mention this because there's an interception in my chart, so the signs ruling my MC-IC aren't usually found on the angles with my particular asc.)... Also, a month after that return, I will be having my Saturn Return, so it's in the same house as my natal chart as well... What is the school of thought on this phenomenon...how do you interpret this?...you mention that it's rare, so I'm wondering what it could potentially mean for that year?!?...is it a positive "omen" or does it simply mean that my natal chart will be especially emphasized during that return cycle?! A friend once told me that when the Solar Return asc. is in the same sign as the natal asc., that year is said to be particularly challenging?!?...Is there any truth to this?!... Looking forward to your response! P.S. have the past few months proven to be "important" for in you the "big picture"?!?

Hi Lunariviera, I think I need a bit more time to determine the impact of this Demi-Solar return of mine! Ask me again in a few more months! I wouldn't say that years with the natal Asc on the Asc of the Return chart are 'particularly challenging. I would simply say they are important years! You get a natal ascendant return on the solar return of a Saturn Return year, and I think it encourages us to 'revisit' ourselves...contemplate the authentic nature of our expression and really 'do' our charts! Do you see what I mean? It brings into focus what has been there 'all along' and gives us a chance to find new ways and means of expressing through the 'eyes of the sign'. When Saturn returns, the sign, house and aspects are 'repeated' as they were at the moment of birth. This is the case with any return by transit, but the chart can look quite different, offering us new ways of self-development. When the return chart has the natal angles repeated, we go back to the 'original' and find new meaning. I suppose that is something I'm 'in' right now, with my demi-solar return.... Kim

Kim Kim, Thanks so much for clearing that up and offering me a bit more insight to chew on...I looked at a few of my friends' Solar Return charts for the years of their Saturn Return and sure enough, they all (with the exception of one), had their natal ASC ruling that year's SR chart...really very fascinating...there's so much happening astrologically with people aged 27-30...it's definitely one of the major turning points in our lives...I'm really looking forward to it at all!...at this point (soon to be 27), I'm really directing my attention towards my impending Prog. Lunar Return, but it's fun to look ahead! Thanks again...you're the best!!! -Michael

Oh, you can also do quarter returns (when the sun is 90 and 270) and Enneads (40 degrees) Kim Kim, I'm sorry for bumping this somewhat defunct thread, but I'm approaching a quarter return this coming friday and I'm curious if it even merits any sort of careful consideration?!....this will be my final quarter return before my SR in the summer...what sorts of insights (if any) can I glean from this type of chart?!...how much weight is assigned to a quarter return chart?!...like the demi, is the time frame only relevant to the next 3 months or would my time be better spent now turning my attention to the upcoming SR chart?! As always, looking forward to your reply!!! lunariviera

Hi Lunariviera,
Sorry I didn't get to this post sooner. I answered the PM but here's a bit more on your query.
As I said in the message: I think you might have a look at the 1/4 return, but I wouldn't get too bogged down in it. The New SR coming up is the 'big one', though increment returns do add.
How's that for a yes and no answer? I guess I am say go ahead and look at the 1/4 return keeping in mind that the annual SR has more weight and you are still living it out.
If you want to supplement the solar return throughout the year, you might consider looking at the new lunar return each month. Perhaps start a thread on it and I'll contribute what I can there!
Also, you are correct. the 1/4 return would be 'active' from now until your birthday. I would read it against the natal chart, not the SR. It's a transit chart, remember. What is it transiting? YOU! So read it back to your natal. Post it here and I'll have a look. I'm sure others will have something to add!
Warmly, Kim

What you stated makes a world of sense and I guess I shouldn't be so quick to discard the current Solar Return... I'll post the quarter return chart, but I feel sort of silly doing so if it doesn't carry much weight...I've been really into all sorts of return charts as of late (especially lunar) and I'm just looking for any and all predictive tools I can look to in order to get a better sense of where energies are flowing...at any rate, here's my natal and quarter return: natal i50.photobucket.com/albums/f326/rumour79/mynatalchart.jpgquarter return
