Hello All, I have been thinking a lot about Varuna (20000).. I have been turning over thoughts about where it shows up in the chart of the Tsunami. Has anyone else seen this slow moving astreriod in their various charts? I note that my husband has it in conjunction with his Mars/Mercury/NN combination. (opposite Neptune) but the real meaning of it in the 12th house is speculative. During the earthquake under the sea, it was at about 15 degrees Cancer, I believe at a midpoint between the Moon and Saturn. The little bit of writing I found about it. Some of the key words such as "global" and "apocalyptic visions" make an interesting point. www.geocities.com/mahtezcatpoc/varuna.htmlAny thoughts? Where does it end up in your natal chart? Thanks ahead of time, Svenskasfinx

My natal Varuna is conjunct my Fortuna in Taurus in the 9th. hmmm... This might say something about my experiences of travel and publishing! Cataclysmic I know of some great articles on this body. Stand by and I'll be back with some links and reading suggestions. ;)Kim

Hi Everybody!
I just checked out where Varuna is in my chart and found it in Taurus in my 4th house opposing my Sun and Mercury in the tenth house. It is square Saturn, quintile Chiron and trine my ascendant.
I need to check where it is by transit and Solar Return because I'm currently experiencing big plumbing problems! I'm not sure if that fits - just a thought.
When I looked at the composite chart of a past relationship, I found it was conjunct the composite descendant! Lots of drowning in tears!

Maybe not cataclysmic but rather "Global" I get the feeling due to the mythology of that body in general, that it is a force wealth and or destruction but always "global" and certainly is "powerful".. in a way a little like Neptune's palace under the sea.. and in command over the sea as well as the demons of the sea.. Where it fits in, who can really imagine... it feels mildly like "Pluto" for me as well; another sort of power, and I feel that it can have a vibration of the two combined.. but maybe not. I have mine in the 12th house in Taurus at 28:46..it has an odd place in my chart, making some inconjuncts to my Juno/Adonis conjunction and is given an opposition to Neptune. ( It semisextiles my ascendant. I wonder what this kind of energy means in the "personal"? Right now I its transiting at 14 degrees 31 minutes Cancer right now in a retrograde direction. So its getting kind of personal with me now I feel the reason I tie it in to the area of the Tsunami is because of the mythology relating to that area of the world.. I suppose I would relate asteroids like Hopi more to the lands tied into the mythology and then let them cross over into the consiousness of our multi cultural world.. sort of "spacific in order to be universal" as PeteS would say concerning other things. (He had a point, and that point I can use concerning archetypes and astrology.) Interesting Bridget about the past relationship; was it a powerful feeling that made you both cry? thats about it for now, the son is getting very restless! svenskasfinx P.S. I just took a look at his chart; his Varuna is conjunct his NN (like his pappa's) which is conjunct my Sun stelium in Cancer. For bad or good, as I alway say!

Then “Global” it is! I do live half-way round the world from where I was born and I communicate with (you all) people from every corner of the earth…my “philosophy” is “global”, syncretistic, universal, animistic and perhaps my greatest joy (Fortuna) comes from the feeling of connection to everything in existence (quantum physics). I KNOW we talked about Varuna on this forum or was it the old one? The search doesn’t show anything. I did find this quote though, that honors Varuna- “He follows the track of the birds that fly in the sky like the wake of a ship ploughing through the waves; and knows the past and the future. He is a witness of every action. He is the ‘third party’ present at every gathering. No authority is equal to his.”<br> Varuna is known as the “universal encompass-er, the all-embracer”. He presides over the “ambrosia of the Moon” (the reservoir of sacred liquid) and also, like Pluto, presides over the dead. Oddly, "he" is very lunar. Varuna rules the sky, the air and the waters. The wind is his breath, the stars are his eyes. He sees everything going on in the world, including every secret thought! Varuna is a trans-neptunian or KBO (Kuiper Belt Object) about a quarter the size of Pluto, a tiny bit smaller that Pluto’s Moon, Charon. (900 km) His orbit is about the same length as Pluto, 285 years. Here is a site that gives a bit of information around the astrology of Varuna’s discovery: www.lunarplanner.com/asteroids.htmlMore on this soon. Kim

Hi Svenskafinx,
Yes, I'd say it was a powerful feeling. Thank you for asking.
After reading Kim's discription of Varuna, I get a better picture of what His symbolism might bring to our composite DC and Progressed DC and NN, though still a mystery.
Take care,
Bridget Marie

Hi All,
I am late in going through this thread. It is interesting to find Varuna conjunct Moon (6 deg orb) in Taurus in the chart of Indian republic. Indian economy has a strong bearing on the amount and distribution of monsoon rains. The economy for taurus, water for moon and varuna for sky and clouds. Thunder showers accompanied with lightning are common in India (varuna closely sextile Uranus in cancer). Authorities eagerly look for news and keep an eye on the performance of monsoon (Varuna square Sun in Aqa).
After 14 years of good performance, monsoon rains were very poor in the year 2002. I casted the chart for vernal equinox of 2002 since monsoon progress is closely linked to the movement of Sun. Varuna in cancer conjunct Moon and Jupter is a good sign. Uranus is not linked to either varuna or moon. Saturn in gemini exactly novile natal varuna in taurus. The 9th hamonics linked with perfection and completion, and they have also been linked with imprisonment and difficulty. Does this suggest during 2002 the Saturn in gemini restricted the freedom of varuna ?
This year tension is building up fearing failure of monsoon. The onset over southern tip of the country is already delayed by 3 days. Scientific signals are not very encouring. I find Varuna conjunct saturn in cancer(7 deg orb) not connected to moon in Vir.
In mundane astrology, do we find especially strong connection between moon and varuna for all those countries having a good rain producing weather systems ?
Any ideas friends
Kris

During 1972 monsoon rains were very poor and the country reeld under famine conditions. In vernal equinox chart, Varuna exactly conjunct Saturn in Gemini 2nd degree. Varuna also conjunct Mars and semisquare moon.
During 1978, many parts of country were inundated by floods. Seasonal Rainfall was 25% more than normal. Vernal equinox chart show Varuna in gemini square moon in virgo and moon sextile uranus in scorpio. Airy, earthy and watery signs are closely linked.

Dear Kris,
That is very interesting obsveration and studying! Wonderful work!
I haven't studied the charts of countries enough to know alot about their configurations in comparision to the placement of Varuna or most of the planets.. but I commend you and a few of my friends who do make predictions and observations when dealing with the charts of countries... its exciting and interesting work...
Its different because of the time even a young country has to "develop" and progressions are also a serious part of these studies...and with the number of years any country can effectively be established and such.. the average on progressions is hundreads of years!...
Working with transits to natal charts at least you can see a pattern of events that span over hundreds of years... isn't that amazing?
Sorry I don't have much to say other than praise for your keen skills of observation and seeing the patterns.. but I'm just in awe! Thanks for sharing that.. and I hope to make a more meaninful contribution later on..
Best wishes,
svenskasfinx

My Varuna is 3'01 Gemini Retrograde in 9th house, and it squares my Moon in 3'11 Pisces in 6th. It also conjuncts my Saturn in 5'08 Gemini and opposes my Neptune in 1'48 Sagittarius. So it forms a t-square. So Varuna adds to my t-square of Moon square Saturn-Neptune opposition. I also have it trine my Pluto in 0'51 Libra in 1st.
In my Vedic chart, My moon is in Satabisha which is the nakshatra ruled by Rahu and Varuna is the deity of that nakshatra.
