Silly question: What is a Draconian chart? (one that's especially harsh???) Also, does anyone have an opinion of Asteroids in Synastry by Donath? I am thinking of ordering it, but I was a little disappointed by Lehman's Ultimate Asteroid Book (so many asteroids left out) and also by March/McEvers synastry book ... if I want the Donath book, I'll need to buy it "sight unseen," so I'd like to know if the experts think it's worth it ... btw, Kim, I sent an email to your site and wait with bated breath for info about YOUR book's release -- I can already tell it will be a GEM! ... Thanks, J

Dear Jemma,
We have a thread on Draconic charts that begins with explanations. Draconic does not mean "harsh," but is so named because everyone calculates their chart using O degrees Aries as the "head of the Dragon" or North Node. Kim has done a great job of explaining how to calculate one's Draconic chart.
I know we have called the Draconic chart one's "soul purpose" but really, I am not sure what that means. I do know that it provides information as to what may be working on another level in one's life.
The examples I am confident enough to share are
1. My dad, a huge influence on my life, was a natal 8th house Taurus. They say you marry your father, and for a long time I could not see the similarities between my dad and m husband, other than they were solid, every day presences in my life. Well, my husband's Draconic chart shows that he is a sun-sign 8th house Taurus, and all of a sudden I could see how his needs and manner of working in the world did show a huge connection between that and his natal Capricorn sun.
2. Any connections between your natal and Draconic serve to underscore the importance of the energies represented. I have a natal Neptune/Vesta conjunct the ASC in Libra and my Draconic sun-sign is Venus. All things Libra and Venus become even more vital for me to express in a natal Sun-in-8th-house-Gemini way. Believe me, I am working on that one. I also have a natal Saturn at 27 Scorpio and in my Draconic chart 27 Scorpio is the MC. It is vital that I express Saturn in Scorpio in my work at a deep and consistant level, all the more so because I have a natal stellum of planets in the 10th house, including Scorpio's ruler, Pluto, which is sqaure my natal Saturn!
So I see Draconic charts as useful for major self-discovery if that's your thing.
In synastry, I think the undercurrents are subtle but important. In one relationship I had, I was constantly picking up major Leo energy from this person. Now he did have alot of planetary energy in the 5th house, Leo's domain, and he did have Jupiter in Leo, but he also had a major stellum in 6th house Capricorn. Turns out, he has major Draconic action in Leo, including the Sun and Mars.
As for books on asteroids, you have to remember that asteroid research in astrology is very new, and most of it has been done with just Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta and the Liliths. Many astrologers are not into asteroids and find them confusing and even irrelevant. I think we are spoiled by Kim's groundbreaking work and the opportunity to explore meanings on this site. My opinion is, to read anything that has been published on the asteroids, because there is so little out there yet.
I am actually writing a book on my life experiences with the asteroid Sappho, (Haven't told anyone on the forum yet, so I guess the news is now officially out....although Kim knows about it.) Natally Sappho sits on the midpoint of my 9th House Venus in Cancer and 8th house Gemini Sun, and in my progressed chart she is conjunct my Vertex. Obviously she has some things to say!!!
Well, I've blabbed long enough. Thanks for the opportunity!
Blessings, Amoroso

Dear Amoroso ... Thanks so much for all the interesting info ... I will definitely try to figure out how to use the Draconic chart, since I have been told that discovering "who I am" is my job in this lifetime (seems sort of banal -- not something grand like saving the world) ... Your Sappho books sounds very exciting ... My Sappho is at 18 Libra, forming trines to Mars (21 Aquarius) and Uranus (17 Gemini) ... That looks very dynamic, but it seems almost "foreign" to me, probably because my Moon (19 Pisces) conjuncts Merc (20 Pisces) ... and Sappho would seem to be the least emotionally/mentally accessible, considering the quincunx ... does this jibe with your interpretations? Thanks, Jamma (if the name in the post is different it's because I've been having trouble logging in -- I get a message saying my membership needs to be approved by an administrator)

I searched the Draconic chart threads and found that someone sent Kim her info and Kim produced the chart for her ... As I imagine Kim is pretty occupied right now, does anyone know how to cast a "do it yourself" Draconic chart using Astrodienst? Thank you ...

Thanks Amoroso for the insights here on the Draconic zodiac and asteroids... Jamma, you're approved now—I just updated the new members. Let me know if you still have trouble logging in. And email me your data and I'll send you a Draconic chart (you'll have to hand work out any asteroids you want to include, but once you understand how the D. zodiac works that will be easy. Anyone forum member who wants to learn more about Draco charts can email me their data with 'draconic zodiac' in the subject bar and I'll draw up the wheel. I’m super busy right now but I alway want to encourage and facilitate every enquiring mind! Kim
