Exactly my point from above!!!!
It must've been great to be a man back then.....sorta like living like a King with a full-time servant to do all your bidding! (And this is simply stating generally known facts....not an anti-man statement! I value intelligent and modern men very much!!)
You are correct, back then, divorce was not normal, either with or without children. That is why statistics are skewed when comparing the divorce rates of today vs 50 years ago....I do not doubt that the number of unhappy people in a marriage was not much different than today-it is just that TODAY, women have more options other than STAYING in a unsatisfactory marriage. Men too for that matter...Ex. they were just as stuck if their wife went through the 'change' and morphed into someone less enjoyable! Ugh.
Thank goodness times have changed......somewhat! Both genders have to be mindful of not slipping into old patterns learned from childhood....This can make for challenging issues some days!! ;D
PS-I think there were many, many vestal virgins back then. Talk about limited options!! And having been with only one man their entire life, serving and doing, no wonder the majority of women from that time period do not re-marry! I wouldn't blame them one bit either! Take a 30 year vacation ladies!!
It is a rarity to come across a more 'modern' thinking woman or man from that time....and such a pleasure too!! These people were the pioneers of change....ahead of their time by recognizing equality!! Now THAT is COOL!!
