Hi! Still early, but in 2007 my progressed Sun will finally move from Libra to Scorpio! But before that there will be a progressed New Moon at 29 deg 31 of Libra, at 19/20th of March 2007. The last time I had a progressed New Moon was at the end of October 1977, at 0 deg 29 min Libra, and I'd just started going 'steady' with the father of my kids, getting real serious. Since 29 and 0 are both critical degrees, and the last New Moon symbolized such an important event, this seems very interesting. Some texts predict crises to occur. I could imagine the last degree of the sign symbolizing some kind of urgency... a last effort to use that particular energy. The Sun-Moon conjunction adds to this feel for me. As does the finally completed Venus -Saturn conjunction as do all these planets and asteroids in 7... i23.photobucket.com/albums/b364/astrojuliet/Juliet.gifAnyone any experiences with progressed New Moons to share, or about Ciritical Degrees?? The progressed Sun will move into the 29th degree coming September. All my best! Juliet

Dear Juliet, I wouldn't necessarily associate a progressed new Moon with crisis -- I would liken it to a whole new beginning! Dane Rudhyar has a text on it, it's called "The Lunation Cycle", which discusses the progressed soli/lunar cycle in detail. I have a couple articles to share with you: www.khaldea.com/rudhyar/aoft/aoft_c8_s4_p1.shtmlwww.khaldea.com/rudhyar/astroarticles/progressedlunationcharts.phpHere's an excerpt: "While the progression of the Moon through the houses and in contact with natal planets in these houses are significant, because the Moon should always be intimately linked with the Sun, the most important cycle of progressions to be considered is what I have called the progressed lunation cycle. The different periods in this soli-lunar cycle are made obvious by the ever-changing size of the Moon during the 30 days this cycle lasts. What changes, however, is not the Moon itself, but the relationship between the Sun and the Moon as seen from the Earth. The progressed lunation cycle therefore is the cycle of relationship between the progressed Moon and the progressed Sun." I have a PNM coming up too, in 2007. It will be exact in May of 07 at 4 Taurus, 2° away from my natal vertex in my 7th house. I've been dialoguing with an astrologer in NYC, and I'll share with you what she told me about PNMs in a second, but 1st let me tell you my experience. My last PNM perfected something like beginning of January, 1978, and I was 6 at the time, about to turn 7 (in March of 78). A few months after my PNM, my Dad got a job in Texas (we were living up north at the time) and he moved down there and started house hunting for us (a family of 4). We didn't move to Texas as a family unit until 1979, but the whole process started in 78, really just a few months after my PNM. This particular PNM was at 5 Aries, falling into my natal 6th (acquisition of skill, submission to a larger purpose, learning to be useful, competence). It was definitely the start of a new cycle for me in a very literal way, as I ended up staying in Texas. At around this time, Pluto was hovering near my AC, just a few degrees past I think...a classic indication of a move/geographic relocation, especially in one who is young. At this time, I also had solar arc Mars squaring my natal AC, according to Noel Tyl: "Robustness, the fighting spirit". (I did not want to move down south and leave my friends up north, really. I got my Dad to agree to let me go back up north for several summers after we moved down to Texas.) Here is what the astrologer from NYC says about PNMs: "A progressed new moon is one of the most significant happenings in astrology. It shows a brand new beginning, a new cycle, an utterly new orientation particularly in the area of the natal chart that it falls in -- what house it occupies in the progressed chart will tell you something about the quality of the new moon. You will go about the natal chart changes via progressed house methods and issues. Basically, it's about an inner marriage, an integration of past and present, a union of spiritual inspiration and material reality but, like all marriages, it's often difficult at the start. The new aspect of life/orientation will come to its first crossroads when the progressed Moon moves into a square with the Sun. As your PNM is conjunct the Desc, and also the Vertex, it will deal with relationship issues, but will also focus on the larger issue of how you really relate to others. Any 1st/7th house conflicts in your natal chart will be highlighted. The PNM is often a time when new people come into your life, particularly people of the opposite sex who will help you realize or understand your new path. Sometimes the relationships are romantic, sometimes not. It's a common time for marriages. With the Vertex involved, it's very likely that significant others of all kinds will come into your life now. (Of course, this depends on what else is happening in the chart.) The book to read is Dane Rudhyar's The Lunation Cycle, which discusses the progressed soli/lunar cycle in detail. One way to get some clarity on the situation is to look back and see when the progressed Moon was conjunct your natal Sun--this is often a rehearsal for the issues and changes that come up during the progressed new Moon." She is actually going to be getting back to me in more detail soon, as I have several progressed lunar aspects + a Mercury/Mars progression before the PNM, and she is going to discuss with me the significance of all of this. If we go into the progressed lunation cycle itself in more detail, I will share any more insights with you all. Hope this helps! Chrissy

Thanks to both! Chrissy, you bring up some remarkable things, thanks for sharing!! It helped a lot. I do agree the PNM means a new start, but this all happening on the 29 and something'th degree of Libra brought new questions with it. Big change is crisis in itself, isn't it, positive or not. Since the PNM is in my 7th, I feel relationship issues are the focus for me too, cq the relationship to self. I'll still have to read the articles you brought up, but had a look at the time when progressed Moon was conjunct natal Sun: december 2003. My last bf and me were discussing changing the relationship to something less compulsive and obsessed, on his initiative, because we did not want the relationship to blow up. We felt both happy and optimistic, very together. It blew up anyway, it did not work, but that was something we both could not admit till much later. I started doing therapy on 'men-issues'. Spring of 2004. Wow, this is amazing. When Moon squared the coming PNM beginning of 2001, he'd contacted me after a long silence and only seeing each other twice, and we started seeing each other in earnest when my pr Moon moved into Leo. Interesting detail: his progressed Moon was minute-conjunct my natal Sun when we met! My pr Vertex has hovered around the DC too, Chrissy. It's moving into 6 now, but will be conjunct my Part of Marriage. Let's be honest, I hope I'll meet someone new to love, and to be loved again! Pr Mars will be on Venus, pr Mercury in/on the PNM. Transits are interesting too: Pluto will trine natal Pluto, and Chiron will have it's first pass over natal Chiron. Yes, I will be fifty in 2007!!! The inner marriage feels closer for me then ever before. I know I'm not that interested in confirmation of selfworth by a man anymore. My last fling during the Venus retrograde taught me that. I've always felt safe when a man was sexually obsessed with me. Hmm. Sun and Moon still in the 7th AND moving into Scorpio will bring another level of intensity with it. More Plutonic then Platonic. ;D I'll try to be open to what will happen as much as possible. Thanks again, and I'm very curious about everything the astrologer has to tell you! All my best, Juliet

A quote from Jeff Jawer on the transition from Libra to Scorpio, found while I followed one of Prima's links in the career post: Long term emotional processes are aptly symbolized by these lunation cycles, I believe. My personal development from someone too reasonable (a smiling Buddha) to a highly emotional woman right now may have had something to do with this transition. Or may have had me prepared. And thanks Chrissy! J

Hi Juliet,
I'm finally getting to this post, though it's interested me for days. (The whole forum is so active now it would take me 50 hours a week to answer each question/comment in any depth...I just have to let go of being able to do that. I'll be glad if I have 5 hours a week for it with my deadlines! I hope everyone realizes that if I don't get to their posts, it's not because I'm disinterested! It's because I'm time limited.)
These progressions coming up are very strong. If we just look at P Moon, we have her at 17 Libra 40 today, (and moving forward about 1 degree a month). She is exact on your natal Venus, will conjunct P. Mars next month, then P. Mercury, then P. Sun before clocking over into 0 Scorpio, which conjuncts natal Neptune!
WOW!
This is not an idle time, these next 10 months!
Right now, Moon is in the end of the Saturn/Uranus Decan, the beginning of the Venus (Taurus) Dwad. Here we have changes of old patterns in the home, domestic relationships, unity with children and reflection on past intimacies. There is a feeling of 'something's about to give' before the Moon moves into the Gemini Decan/dwad in less than two months.
With P. Moon on Venus, we get and interesting energy! Your Arabic “part of female children” is 17 Libra, so not only your own values, sensuality, desires and creative forces are activated, but so are your daughters! You may experience this progression via events in her life as well as your own.
This is usually noted as a time of pleasure and socializing. We hear about others ‘getting together’ or starting a family and it triggers self-refection towards our own relationship life. You might feel more emotional, more empathic, more sensitive and more demonstrative, feeling like hugs and cuddles and human contact is very important (which it is!).
This is such a favourable time for creative outpouring and is even linked to (in the old texts) a marriage or engagement!
What makes it complex for you is that your P. Mars is at 18 degrees Libra and it is stirring up a lot of restless energy. Mars wants ACTION and the peaceful bliss of Moon/Venus is sometimes ‘perturbed’ by the push of Mars. Buried or unexpressed energy tends to ‘fester’ now and must be ‘lanced’. You have to let the poison out. (It’s not that you are poisoned, but experiences in the past have been ‘walled off’ and they create their own toxins if not released.
This is a time to ‘follow the threads’ of any flare of anger or resentment and get to the source. It’s also a good time for any form of healing sessions that work with energy in this way. So MUCH can be released if you’re willing to make the journey. P. Psyche is very close to p. mars (and natal Venus) and her myth may be a guide. Remember how she had to sift and sort and do so many tasks to unravel her way back to Eros? This might be just one of those times. The actual progressed Lunation will be felt soon—probably within 5 degrees of exact, before and after…not long off.
My first thought is that it is ‘happening’ in your natal 9th house, Progressed, 7th. You may find that 9th house experiences, ones of new horizons, philosophical concepts, travel, meditation, higher teaching and expansions of all kinds (even to foreign soils) coincide with the New Beginnings promised by the lunation. The results of which tend to be very 7th house—socially significant, personal one to one relationships. Of course it can indicate the start of a whole new relationship life, based on a whole new philosophy of thought…reaching out into the future to expand your life in many ways.
This can be a tangible relationship, or an inner one…what’s the difference? They both mean the same thing and reflect the same things in you!
I think at the very least you will be meeting new people whose lives seem more aligned with who you are…that ‘get’ you and support you in ways unparalleled in the past.
Usually this New Moon Progression brings with it change—often social –that effects your career and standing, your ability to be creative in the world. I think you will find yourself facing new feelings, taking on new responsibilities, changing your environment (to reflect the freshness in you) and finding a whole new lift in your spirit (remember this is conjunct natal Neptune).
You may need to really watch your health with all this. So much is going on right now, the body may need time to catch up with the forces working though it. All those ‘toxins’ I mentioned before need to be released. Be very aware of over taxing yourself…this is such an important time for nourishment!
Finally, this lunation heralds a time of confidence and optimism that is a potent source of change in itself!
When I had this P. Sun/Moon aspect at 9 Cancer in the 11th house, I went from being a closet musician to playing in several different bands in pubs and at festivals, and started up a duet as well! It was an awesome time for me…a real metamorphosis!
Warmly, Kim

Dear Juliet, Kim said some amazing stuff, but I just thought I'd add a couple more links ... www.journeyinward.net/articles/general/sol-luna_dance.shtmlAs we grow in life our chart progresses at the rate of a day for a year in secondary progressions. Therefore as we evolve in our own natal cycle, our moon phase is not stagnant. It waxes and wanes with the progressed Sun-Moon relationship. By looking in the ephemeris and noting when the next moon phase is after your birth, you can determine how your lunation cycle is evolving. It's not my intent of this article to explain how to determine this mathematically by hand. Roughly you can count a day in the ephemeris for a year of life to get close and then play with secondary progressed dates on your computer to find out exactly when your progressed Sun and progressed Moon move into the next phase relationship. The location of the progressed Sun & Moon in your chart points to the areas of your life that are currently working on the inner self to outer self relationship. The house of the progressed Sun tells the area of life that is most important for your creative self expression and the house of the progressed Moon tells the area of life where you are emotionally focused. The phase tells where you are in your personal growth cycle and the state of the relationship between the two. Because the progressed synodic cycle is roughly 29.5 years long (from birth phase to its recurrence in progressions) you get 3 of these progressed synodic returns in your life time. Often we come into life in the middle of the cycle. We grow to finish it up and begin a new one at our progressed New Moon. The Sabian Symbol of your progressed New Moon is helpful in determining what your new cycle is about.I checked the sabian for your PNM, and here it is: 29 Libra Sabian Symbol: It is a seer's dream. Vast masses of humanity push forward in frantic effort to cross the black chasm to knowledge. Well, that's from astrologyweekly.com, not my favorite site to get sabians from. My favorite site is now gone, but I usually am able to use internet archive to access it (archive.org). However it seems to be down so that's all I was able to find. I haven't had my phone consultation with the NYC astrologer yet, but I did receive my latest installment this week and she went into a little more depth on my PNM, I thought you might find this interesting: Your Progressed New Moon will be occurring at 4 deg Taurus, inconjunct progressed Jupiter exactly. These themes of artistic endeavour, using and re-discovering resources and talents, learning what you bring to the table in relationships, the sense of ownership and stewardship (what do I believe I deserve?) will all be themes that will come up during the next 28 year progressed lunar cycle. It also occurs close enough to the progressed Desc to be considered a conjunction (and falls in the natal 7th) . Partnerships, or a specific partnership, will cause you to examine all these areas of your life. It will be a whole new cycle of discovering “I” through other, and thereby redefining yourself. This is doubly emphasized because it will occur on the natal Vertex. It will be a shaky beginning (all progressed New Moons are problematic) but eventually you will define yourself and your life by your own spiritual terms (the goal of the Pisces Sun), and you will find more and more people who share this vision with you. Particularly when the Sun is square the Moon natally, there is a chance for the healing of the deep rift between ‘what I came with’ and ‘what I’m supposed to become.’ I wish I had more to share, but that's really the extent of how much she's going to discuss the lunation cycle in an e-mail. She said we could cover specifics and any questions I have in a phone consultation. Kim did a great job at giving you some enlightening information and I'm sure that helps bunches! More later if I have anything to add, Chrissy

Dear Chrissy and Kim,
To both: thanks millions for your imput. I've been quiet and rather down and out about my ex... he does not seem very interested in our kids anymore, (he used to call them several times a day) and they are with me all the time now. We used to share custody and care equally. I hope this will change when his new family will have refound its balance, but if it won't... we'll find a way. I'll be back later with new comments about the PNM. Thanks,
Love, Juliet

I'd like to add that my experience with POF and Sappho at the 29th degree is that there have been a few occasions for tears, as they say with the 29th degree. It involves letting go of the past to make way for the future. And realizing things are the way they are for the highest good.
On the up side, when Kim said, "P. Psyche is very close to p. mars (and natal Venus) and her myth may be a guide. Remember how she had to sift and sort and do so many tasks to unravel her way back to Eros? This might be just one of those times," I immediately remembered that Psyche was alway provided with a helper, just what she needed in the nick of time to accomplish what she needed. The 29th degree is just in the nick of time. You have a powerful time ahead. May it be blessed.
