Hi Everyone,
I was over at Cosmic Imperative a few minutes ago inputting my information, and the question arose in my mind of Daylight Savings Time in Europe (where I was born). so I looked up DST and learned that yes, there is DST in Europe and that it had gone into effect the day before I was born the year that I was born. so then I went to Astro.com to check if they had an automatic calculator at that sight. Didn't see one. I went back to Cosmic Imperative and input my data, checking the box for DST this time. My axes changed significantly! I came up with a 17 degree Scorpio ascendent instead of a 27 degree, and an MC at 2 Virgo instead of 18 Virgo. If this is true (and I am not convinced) then ALL of the charts I have purchased over the years are incorrect! Any feedback? Kim? Ariesmoon? Anyone else in Europe?

Hi Pam, I was born in 62 in the UK, in June, and we had DST (what we call British Summer Time) which is an hour ahead of GMT. Astro.com seems to pick that up - at least I think it does - I now need to go back & check!
I've just had it confirmed by an astrologer who is a psychic, that my birthtime is 35 minutes earlier than the one my mum gave me, which makes me definitely a Taurus AC not a Gemini AC. I thought that was right, and he's confirmed it. Do the Sabian symbols make any sense to you for the revised Asc and MC?

Pam, I am not 100% certain of this... It appears that Germany has consistently used DST only since 1980. Most European countries abandoned DST for a period of time after WWII. When did Bavaria begin using it again? I really don't know. However, I have checked three different sources that show daylight time "NO" for your year of birth. Check this link: www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/timezone.html?n=37&syear=1950. You can see the history of Central European Time (CET) in Berlin, Germany, which also applies to your city. I hope this helps. Love, Aphrodite

Hi again Pam - just checked on Cosmic Imperative and it comes up with exactly the same chart as astro.com did. Astro appears to apply daylight saving automatically - under my birth time of 2.35 am it says "Universal Time 1.35 am" which says to me it's added on the extra hour.

I have UTC +1 for her chart and feel pretty good about it. Although I know it is very distressing to not be sure about the exact time. It would be great if someone could provide an official source for the history of time in Germany.

Pam, my experience of Astro.com is they are highly accurate. Please email me your data and I will double check for you though.

Hi Pam, Thanks for sending your data. I realized I had it on file as well. I double checked: There was no Daylight savings in your birth town between 1949 and 1980--hence the astro.com and my Matrix software are correct giving you a 27 Sc asc. Source" The International Atlas of World Latitudes, Longitudes and Time Changes, Programmed by Thomas G. Shanks, ASC Publications, 1988 page 166. (this is a must have reference for doing charts by hand--something I did for decades in the 'old days' In any case, Astro.com and Matrix are two of the most sophisticated astrology software programs in the world. It'd be very surprised to see such a major glitch in either of them! Kim

Yes I agree with Kim that Astro.com is always reliable Oh when I remember the hell I went thro when I moved to the SHem and had to learn to do non computerised charts for upside down Maths is not my strong point I think learning astrology went thro the roof when we were able to stop doing the b..... maths

Hi Ariesmoon,
Does your psychic ever work in the United States?

Hi Kelly,
I don't think so, I think he's based purely in the UK, he dowsed the time from a photograph I sent him. I'm meeting him in a few weeks for a Chiron workshop so I'll ask him then.

This reminds me of back in the 60's when I did all my charts using spherical trigonometry. Oops! My Gemini Mars is showing...
As far as I know daylight time is not completely reliable in Europe, at least you can't say "this timezone is DST and this one is not". I think Germany is the most consistent since the war. In Italy, there are some towns that observed daylight time while others did not in 50's and 60's according to friends from Italy. -Del
