Two asteroids in my natal chart are 8 degrees apart longitudinally but yet they are contra-parallel within about 1 minute. Does anyone have similar configurations? I'm curious if there's significance to having two asteroids nearly conjunct and also exactly contra-parallel.

I just read an article that may have resolved this issue. It appears that the contra-parallel is invalid because the bodies are so far from an opposition. Apparently, the same logic is to be applied to bodies that are within orb of a parallel but are quite far from a conjunction.

Hi Kelly, Was this an online article? I'd love to read it. I didn't understand this part: "It appears that the contra-parallel is invalid because the bodies are so far from an opposition." What was the logic that was applied? The parallel or contra-parallel aspect can be found between planets with just about any other type of aspect link or no other link at all. The other aspect, if it exists, would not invalidate the (contra-)parallel. In answer to your first post: (Contra-)Parallels are quite common. I have 8 of these aspects, if you include the angles and main four asteroids. You can judge the significance of the parallel aspects by checking what else is going on with the planets involved and the overall chart. For instance, my most significant is Sun parallel Pluto. My 8th house Sun is in close square aspect to Pluto. With only 3 1/2 degrees of Libra on the Ascendant, the remainder of the 1st house is in Scorpio. Pluto is parallel the Midheaven and makes some kind of aspect to all the personal planets except Mercury. Mars is Aries (29 degrees) conjunct Descendant. Do you see a theme? By comparison to the main planets, asteroids are like spice to the soup. Not all will be relevant in every chart. Those that do make some kind of connection add flavor and color to the dish. In my case, Anteros is exactly parallel my Sun. More loosely, Pan is conjunct the Sun and Psyche is conjunct Pluto. These are variations on the theme. Best wishes to you, Aphrodite

Hi Aphrodite, The article is at www.solsticepoint.com/1declination.htm. Your post reminded me of a John Lennon natal aspect I discussed on the Noel Tyl forum. Cynthia is parallel Descendant yet far from a conjunction with the Descendant. John had Mars and Pluto transiting parallel his natal angles at the time of his death so having one or more just parallels in effect does appear to be relevant. You probably have a point about declinational aspects' validity. I didn't think about John's aspects while I read the article so I must have been having a brain cramp. Thanks for responding. Kelly
