Kim, Where do you look in a chart to find out how children might affect a relationship. Do you look in the composite, or look for certain synastries (the likelihood a couple would be interested in having children) or in each individual chart?
Haven't read anything about it and am curious as to where to start. It's of particular interest with regards to the recent reading you did for me in August.
Many thanks for any insight, Amelia

Hi Amelia,
It’s good to hear from you.
The first place to look for hints about children is the natal 5th house. Transits there, and to the Sun or where Leo is found also can “indicate” matters of children, especially the first child.
The Moon is about pregnancy, childbirth and nurturing love, mothering (among other things). Transits to the Moon can indicate major events there.
Where to look to find how children might affect the relationship? Boy, this is huge. This is such a loaded and complex landscape. Children awaken all kinds of longings and fears—commitment, responsibility, creative expression—and our feelings towards our own “inner child”. How the natal Moon is placed and aspected comes into play, one’s own experience of childhood and mother, how “grown-up” we are, how generous we are.
One person may feel ready, the other not. One person may have longings for fulfilment through a child, the other may not. Even if both are on the same track, it is ALWAYS a surprise…the reality of a child.
I would look in the composite 5th to see how the relationship experiences children, and again, aspects to the Moon talk about how the two may nurture as a couple.
Synastry is important too. If someone has all there personal planets in your 5th house, then you are going to think about 5th house things-one being children. The synastry of the child comes into play big time, although that is not known until they are born! (Surprise!)
With placements like one person’s Ascendant in the other’s 5th house, and the other’s Uranus/Moon/Jupiter in one’s 5th, you get a lot of “child” activation (and creative, heart, love affair activation too). It’s only natural.
With transiting Jupiter through the 5th for the next year, there is a lot of “expansion” going on in that area of life.
I have also found that Mercury contacts to the Sun can seem to bring “thoughts of children”.
What you find in the natal 5th house can say something about the experience of a child, especially the first. You can use the “derivative” house system to see about subsequent offspring—ie the 3rd from the 5th (7th) is the second child—the sibling 3rd of the first child 5th. Does that make sense?
Does this give you a starting point?
Let me know.
Warmly, Kim
