Hello, Kim;
I was doing up a bit of synastry on a relationship happening, as I'm really curious about the action of psyche in relationship charts. and i found a surprise!
I used my chart and my current boyfriend, and discovered that his natal psyche is in virgo, and conjuncts my natal venus by 14 minutes. it's in my fifth house and in his seventh.
my natal psyche is in aquarius, and conjuncts his north node by three minutes. it's in my ninth house and his twelfth.
These are tight conjunctions--I use narrow orbs, never going more than four degrees out on anything, and with asteroids I don't like going much farther out than one and a half degrees - I'll look at two if there's something odd going on there, but I think that narrow orbs are more what i want to examine.
I think that his psyche on my venus is a romance aspect - that he connects with my odd combination of prudent reserve and hair-down fun. but when I think to the myth, psyche is set on her tasks and ordeals by venus, whose jealousy of her got the whole story going in the first place. Venus keeps throwing ordeals at her to "prove" herself before she will reunite psyche with eros, and that gives me a bit of pause. does it interpret some other way?
my psyche on his north node, though, I'm not sure what to make of that, as the north node is mysterious to me.

Hello Heliotrop. Welcome to the forum.
These are good observations and good questions. Let’s look at Psyche/Venus first.
Myth is an important means of elucidating contacts, though if you keep to single events in the story—such as Chiron’s wounding as opposed to his role of preparing heroes for adventure—you can get a one dimensional impression. Venus was at odds with Psyche initially, yet their relationship was much more complex than that.
Before Venus sent her son Eros to inflict Psyche with “a passion for the most vial of creatures”, Psyche was miserable. She lived a terribly lonely life because her people related only to the façade of her beauty and not her as a person. She had suitors and worshipers, but she spent her days in sorrow, weeping.
Venus, capricious goddess that she is, liberated Psyche in the most authentic sense, though the process wasn’t always easy. Venus set in motion events that lead to Psyche becoming immortal and wed to her beloved. That result here is more important than the method, or even the initial intention. In the end, Venus blesses Psyche and her union with Eros. The key is in the blessing.
When Psyche and Venus meet in synastry, there can be an alignment of social values, a matching romantic style and an intuitive “knowing” of the other. It is FUN and Psyche is tuned in. Put the two together and you have a recipe for love of a particular kind, sensual, intuitive, ardent!
As far as Psyche/Node contacts go, first we have to get a grounding in what the Nodes represent.
The North and South Lunar Nodes are imaginary points that mark the crossing of the Moon, up and down as it were, over the ecliptic, which is the imaginary path of the sun around the Earth. The operant word here is imaginary.
The nodes are not real in the typical sense of the word. Yet in spite of their hypothetical existence, the Nodes are significant points that offer meaningful and applicable guide posts in any astrological interpretation.
“[The Nodes] link together the solar principle, the lunar principle and the principle of the Earth. The points are derived through the movement of those three bodies, and I actually think the Nodes are an attempt…to balance solar principles and lunar principles within the body on the earth plane. In some ways, the Nodes indicate a struggle between the pull of the past and new qualities or traits or choices that need to be made.” --Howard Sasportas
The Nodes represent a pull in opposite directions and the South Lunar Node, also known as the Dragon’s Tail or Cauda Draconis, pulls us into the direction of the past. This represents instinctive desires that call us back to a place where we feel, if not comfortable, at least familiar. Like the Moon and her association with intuitive impulses, the South Lunar Node can operate without conscious volition. It is often an automatic response.
The North Lunar Node, the Dragon’s Head or Caput Draconis, by contrast, pulls us into their future. It represents the areas of life where we can, with conscious effort and choice, break new ground and obtain valuable new experiences. Like the Sun, the North Lunar Node, when approached with courage, awareness and a sense of new possibilities, brings consciousness and growth.
The two Nodes are always diametrically opposite, represented by opposing signs and houses. Some astrologers suggest that the South Node is where something is relinquished and the North where something can be gained.
The Lunar Nodes also pertain to people that we attract. An activated South Node can indicate a person from the past that suddenly reemerges. It often works out that these South Node people require help or assistance to varying degrees. Even those with a personal planet sign corresponding to our South Node sign can seem to need assistance most regularly.
An activated North Node, conversely, can indicate new people that enter the life offering opportunity, alliance and aid. Transits and progressions here can indicate someone new presenting a challenge, opening or fresh direction.
Psyche conjunct the North Node by synastry can mean an awakening of the North Node in subtle and curious ways. It can feel like you “know” each other somehow, even if you have just met. The North Node represents growth through conscious choice and action. With Psyche activating it, you may feel the need to develop or nurture each others sensitivity, intuition and romantic longings. It is possible that, in the past, these qualities were subdued or overlooked and now it is time to value them. This usually implies making great effort as these experiences, at first, may not seem natural or easy.
Being together can initially feel like a powerful recognition of each other’s psychic needs, the desires that we sometimes hide from others. There can be a mutual support and understanding of what constitutes safely and comfort as well as a feeling of necessity at work. You may sustain and encourage each other in your dreams and offer solace and ease when those dreams threaten to overwhelm. The level of intimacy can go very deep in a short span of time because of this gentle feeling of familiarity. If the Nodal axis remains balanced, you may encourage each other to discover new talents and opportunities while recharging in the sanctuary of romantic love.
The contact can become strained if one person over stimulates the other in an unbalanced way. You may be so enamored with the past (opposing S. Node) that you become ridged and stagnate. Conversely, if you dwell on future prospects excessively (N. Node), you may be so overzealous in exploring the unknown until the relationship looses its footings altogether. The nodes are all about balance.
How do you feel this contact expresses now? What about when you first met?
Thanks again for the questions.
Warmly, Kim
