Friends, I am at a crossroads with my work. In my early days prior to marriage and before children I worked in philanthropy (a program officer in a foundation for youth/education programs), established a volunteer service program for junior high kids that entailed volunteer environmental projects and work with the sick and elderly. After marriage for ten years I was a private consultant for several children's and youth organizations, doing mostly writing, research, editing and program planning. I also launched a quarterly magazine for teen girls and then in the past 6 years have established and run a Studio specializing in handmade healing soaps, creams balms. The Studio is fun and creative, ridiculously labor intensive and now turning a modest profit. But I have spent the last full year contemplating how to tie my interests, education and skills together in a way that is thoughtful, of true use to the world and offers renumeration of some sort. Of most interest to me is healing and medicine because of my 8 year up close battle with endocrine disease, the surgical and recovery experience and rearing a diabetic child. For over a year I have been mulling and drawing up drafts of a book, both in short story form (death, dying, and illness) and a nonfiction patient perspective work. I simply unequivocally know I can do this. But my question really is should I embark upon this avenue? I had coffee today with a friend who is finishing her PH. d ion Public Health and she finally says to me sharply. "I can't believe you're considering helping Doc with a book. Your own needs to be written and heard. You can do it you know." I have also contemplated going back and getting a second masters in public health, oncology nursing, medical research... but that is not really viable as more education would be a money drainer. My URANUS Solar Arc is edging towards my NN and Saturn rising in my Solar Return---adding towards my itchiness. PS--Please, please, don't judge my crappy emails and stream of consciousness PMs as indicative of my writing and editorial skills. I indulge myself entirely on the board. It's a fat gift to myself. For writing and editing, I generally get paid per diem what a high priced call girl gets paid for a very wild weekend--without the messiness and smeared makeup in the morning. ;D Can you say what you see on the matter? I Asked What Should I Do Work Wise--What Should I Pursue?

Hey Blue...Because I do not have knowledge in horary, I can not help in this area-so sorry! However, please indulge me with a few thoughts. First, decide what is important to you. Ask yourself what further mark you wish to make on this world?? Second, if writing a book is what you want. OK. If you are wanting to co-write with Doc, I would strongly suggest you review your motivations with that endeavor. (Please understand this from my best intentions). You do not need him to write. Your friend is cautioning you with YOU in mind. That is a sticky area if you want to be truly honest with yourself. Using him as an occasional reference is fine-however, you are perfectly capable of writing whatever you wish on your own. Further education is always an option. My mother went on to work as a Nursing Professor and while working on her PhD in PH, she entered her 60s and went in another direction (she retired). She had been a stay-at-home mother for 15 years before going back to school and receiving higher degrees. It is doable. Investing in yourself is always a great choice!! Many people take left turns in this life at all ages. I think once you make a decision of the BIG picture you want to create, the other details will fall into place. Do both. Write and maybe skip the second Masters and go for the PhD!! How bout that?? Sell your soap business if you wish, then you will have the money for school if you want. Or work on your PhD part-time.....write part-time....and think of something creative for the people like yourself who have had to deal with Endocrine issues. That is a tough area of medicine and difficult for most of the public to understand. It is not a 'visual' state of disease. What might you create that would make that lifestyle easier for others?? Just a few honest thoughts.....things to think about!! Remember, this is YOUR Life and you can choose anything you desire to gift to the world. Continue with your journey and do not be afraid to change courses if need be along the way.....that goes for EVERYTHING in your Life. Hugs- GemStar PS-Hopefully someone will come along and give you a Horary reading. I prefer to go with what you are feeling intuitively!! Good Luck!!

Thanks Gemstar, Jade and Amoroso . I really love you guys. This place is the closest to having a trusted pack of sisters living under my roof as I am ever going to get in this life. The only reason why it would be a second masters is because the undergraduate degree was in English Lit and Education; the Master was in Public Policy/Admin with training in media and demographics. When I met with my Public Health friend and after doing some research I realized because I have no science university courses under my belt I would meet few requisites for advanced study in anything medical or science related. At any rate, I am not necessarily committed to going back to school. It is part of my musing process and truthfully, all my life I have wanted to write and have written academically for others. I may find that love, that path back to where it perhaps truly belongs--not on politics or youth development but through the patient window. As for Doc's book. He is a Pisces/Aqua/Libra/Cancer. I am a Gemini Sun/Mercury with an Aries Moon/Mars. I really grew up with little and have always struck out on my own, very much alone and I am fortunate, grateful and happy to say with some success. No. I will not wait for Doc to define my next career move. Partly, because he is slow, hopeful and dawdling and I am fast, focused and optimistic (I think I view optimistic as proactive; hopeful as more reactive, lingering and waiting.). I even teased him last night that I will be finished by the time he asks me to proof his first chapter. And frankly. I sense that he is completely overwhelmed with his life and schedule. And why not? He has a 1,000 patients. I have my Studio, a slowly blossoming business (which I am loathe to abandon and the family is opposed to abandoning...) my children and while some days I work 12 -14 hours. I say when and when not. Note the Moon in the 12th House (I have never had a horary with Moon in the 12th! ) trine Mercury/Saturn 8th. And Jupiter --so interesting, now direct forming a trine to Sun 8th House and Uranus 3rd house communications. Maybe I should go for it. And expect it to blow everything finally out of my heart and the water !

Dear BO,
In my absence from the forum I kept studying Horary. But I still need a major disclaimer!
First up, please, please post horaries without asteroids. I am going to quote heavily from Ivy G-J, Kim's horary heroine, and Anthony Louis' book, and then throw in some intuition, interpretation, etc.
Your ruler, Jupiter, describes you as optimistic, generous and forgiving, interested in education, publishing and spiritual affairs, and having a respect for institutions and the law.
There is not an applying aspect between your ruler, Jupiter, and ruler of your 6th, Venus. There is no Translation of light between the two, nor is there a Collection of light, even though they both apply to Uranus. Ivy states that the slower planet, the one that "collects their light" has to be in a degree later than both of them. I would next look for an applying aspect between the Moon and Venus, which looks like it is an applying opposition. This probably means just that there is "distance" between you and the job you seek. Major "duh." Never the less, they are connected.
Your ruler, Jupiter, will square Mercury, ruler of your tenth house and 7th house, in 7 degrees. Frustration, blocks, with marriage and what you are doing for a living now? However, the Moon is past a trine to Mercury, you were satisfied with both in the recent past?
However, the Moon in the 12th is well-aspected with that applying semi-sextile to Jupiter . "Happy in seclusion OR RECOVERING FROM HOSPITALIZATION, ILLNESS OR SOME SORROW. (Ivy again.)
The 6th house cusp is in Taurus. It's ruler Venus, as you already know, is associated with things artistic, sensuous, pleasing, but did you know that Venus in the 6th in horary is also denotes an illness that is long and drawn out, as in the kinds of issues you've had to deal with? The sign of Taurus symbolizes glandular issues, swelling of throat and thyroid--endocrine issues!
The 6th house not only rules employment, but "governs the dependent relationship of the part of the body to the whole and the the health od the organism and its malfunction in illness. The 6th also rules therapeutic activity and healing measures including medications and medical regimens."--Anthony Louis. I find the word "relationship" interesting here, as Venus is found in the 7th.
Venus in the 7th house shows ease and love of communicating one to one, but I also think it is about justice, harmony and balance of those one to ones. Venus is also applying to an opposition with Pluto retro in the first. Whew-ee. I think this is about how to find balance though the onslaught of the situations which you have experienced (both health and Mr. Eros) which ultimately heal and are transforming. In your case, it is heal or blow up. There is no in between here.
Your ruler, Jupiter, in the 11th house shows you are interested in forward-thinking that benefits humanity and like-minded groups, perhaps support groups, trine Uranus in the 3rd house of communications is very strong as J implied, because it is Uranus trine its own house, and Uranus just happens to rule your third house. Writing it is! And I imagine it will be unconventional and maybe shake up the status quo (the medical community?) Your 9th house ruler (publications, higher education) is in 8th house cancer, trine that Uranus.
The 8th house in horary really bugs me, as its meaning can be anything from the usual death, sex and taxes to rape, garbage, butchers and surgeons and strangury (painful strained urination!!!) I do not understand what the ruler of your 9th is doing in your 8th house. Perhaps it signifies Doc and his caring of you. However, I tend to agree with Gem that you should not wait for him to write and really ferret out your motivations for wanting to write with him. Perhaps that trine to Uranus shows that he can be involved as a resource, which is apt considering the 8th house is in polarity with the second House of resources.
This chart chows alot about Mars but I have to stop now. I just wanted to point out that after complaining about the asteroids, I just noticed that BML is at the top of the chart, and that interests me. Endocrine issues are a largely female problem. Perhaps you will be a "Voice" (Taurus) for her, in a discriminating way. (Virgo)
As you continue to sort this out for your self, look at the houses this way:
1 Self 5 Self's Expression (note-Point of fortune there!) 9 Self's expression through contact with others
2 Your talents 6 Practical use of those talents 10 Structure built from work with the 6th
3 Relationship with immediate family/tribe (this can include religion and early training!) 7 Relationship with significant others 12 Relationship with the Universe.
The Moon's last aspect is conjunct P in the first. You will unite all these experiences into yourself and not recognize yourself in the mirror when you are through.
Hope this helps! I feel it hasn't answered much but I have tried to read the chart.
Blessings, Amoroso

Dear Blue,
Your question is so close to home it's almost odd to try to answer it....
The Moon on the Asc. shows how deeply you feel about this issue, besides also being your co sig., and it making a trine to Mercury, the ruler of Virgo on the 10th, in the 8th house is a sign that you should illuminate through writing the issues of that house. Mercury is also in an applying conjunction to Saturn, but it will of course turn retro very shortly, and go into Cancer, oh my gosh.... toward the Sun. (Not sure if it will get very close to it, but close enough for a conj. I think.) Sun is ruler of 9th, philosphy, education, writing. Go for that book on endocrine matters!! (Sans Doc, please! As you yourself realized, he moves way too slow. He will be good for the footnotes, though.)
Also, btw, there is a fire trine betw. Pluto in 1st, POF in 5th, and Mars in 9th. I was looking for something that would support my opinion that you should definitely hold on to your business, but not sure what house this would be concerning. But POF in 5th is something to pay attention to, supported by close trines.
Not horary now: I see your business as something that is close to your heart, and very creative, and something that could at one point become a life line -- plus, it can always grow. I would definitely encourage you to hang on to that and maybe put it also on the internet which can help a small business tremendously.
Naturally, the horary is just my novice's opinion, you know that, combined with gut feeling. It's inevitable to be "biased" with this because naturally I combine what I see in the chart with what comes through in your posts. Considering your needs for solitude and the fact that you have gotten used to a certain rhythm of life where you make you own schedule, I don't really "see" you going back to school with all the stress this entails, plus your family's needs, plus making time for your creative outlets which I sense are important to you. I just don't see it.
What you say is correct, Gem, lots of things are doable. That doesn't mean everybody can or should do them. It depends on circumstances also, and above all, DESIRE. Blue's desire however is not undivided and that's another reason I am skeptical in that regard.
Also, to get back to your soap business - handcrafted personal care products is something so 5th house Venus in Taurus, it's unbelievable! Don't give it up. I see this somehow as your POF in 5th (if I'm wrong it's only because I love this stuff!)
Just my opinion...

Another thing to think about, which ties in with WH's post about holding onto your business somehow, is that Mars (energy, drive)is sextile Venus, which not only rules your 6th house, but is intercepted in your 10th! Very interesting, too, that Venus is in the 7th and its sign, Libra, is intercepted. Note that your fifth House ruler, Mars, is the planet we are discussing!
Your handmade soaps and creams as therapies for those who have been ill? I know from personal experience that once you turn an artistic outlet to a steady money source, it changes your relationship (7th-Libra) with it. But with Mars in the 9 (Self's expression through contact with others) this horary shows enormous energy for just that.
This chart seems to be pointing toward several things at once in terms of "job." And I do think all of us on the forum are geared that way anyway!
I also think WH is right about making sure you don't split yourself into too many directions.
I would like to add that I think the nature of horary, when one is explaining a chart, does seem dry, especially when one is first learning. I had my first horary done by a guy I call "Hairy Horary" because the reading was so dry and judgmental I wanted to scream. And of course, I immediately went running to Kim for a different 'take." But now I understand that he was just reading the chart without alot of personal intuition. He alluded to "some favrables in the chart" but never did elaborate.
But if my posts seem dry on this thread, I am just trying to learn the basics of what the chart "says" and verbalize that in a clear way. I do have a lot of Virgo dwad and decan action natally!
Blessings, Amoroso

Dear BO,
Have been gone two days and will read your horary without looking at the other replies, to be as fresh as possible! So please forgive any doubles. I use asteroids for 'illustrational' purposes only, circumstantial evidence...
Your ruler is Jupiter in wonderful 11, and it has just turned direct, a terrific sign! Also in its own term!
Please, BO, I respect your need for privacy, but could you just leave in the timing of your questions, I'd like to see whether they are asked AM or PM to determine the triplicity of the rulers, quite essential to answering horary questions! Your co-ruler is conjunct the AC, the question is very close to your heart and what follows will be good for you, whatever it is.
The ruler of 9, publicising, is Sun in 8, which seems to indicate the desire to be read about surgery, death and illness. There are no applying Ptolemeic aspects between any of these rulers though.
Ruler of the act of writing (3) is Saturn, which technically is in 9, which seems to plead for writing anyhow. Every planet within 5 degrees of a cusp is interpreted in the next house! Moon will perfect the applying trine to Saturn in 7 time units.
Cusp 6 of daily work is in Tau, the sign of materialized beauty, and fits what you do now for a living. Moon will opposite Venus in 12 time units, so there probably will be a different career, a separation from what-you-do-for-a-living. For your calling I look at cusp 10, and Mercury is its ruler and in 8, and about to go retro or already retro. This indicates a change of direction. From Leo to Cancer, from being visisble to being less visible. Moons last aspect is a conjunction to Pluto. Pluto is ruler of 12, the house of disease and hospitals. My conclusion is that there are signs of all three careers in this chart and no conclusive answers now.
There is another matter which is off-horary. I believe that we always know the answers to these kind of questions. They are about something deep inside you and the answer is in you, in grounding, in getting in touch with your passion. You will know when the time is really ready and I bet you will be as clear as glass about what you want to do! Is it really impossible to choose the education? You can always learn to live with less money! I have a eleventh of what I had 10 years ago and prices have not exactly fallen in a decade... Still, I'm better off now, closer to me.
All my best! Juliet

Dear Amoroso, Jade, Gemstar , Whiteheather and Juliet, Thanks so very much for the thoughtful responses. Yes! I see everything addressed here in this chart and I am a nascent apprentice of horary by everyone's stretch of the imagination. I think horary has a way of capturing my emotions like nothing else. (betraying? revealing?) For me that Moon in 12 seems to speak volumes. Between the ongoing hospitalizations--in the quarantine wing of nuclear medicine no less (I mean it doesn't get any better than H12 for this...quarantine!!???LOL) and the beautiful still seclusion of my Studio where I find the secluded artisan work so nurturing and fulfilling even sensual like having my babies, nursing, baking (I am revealing my native Eros in 4th here I think...).... I have been writing most of my adult life, usually for others, often for pay, but sometimes for myself including the quarterly which received great reviews. Since the hospitalizations, the miscarriage, my mother's death even, I have found myself really intent upon focusing not so much on my specific disease but the entire loss, illness, patient journey. My own writing work has nothing to with Doc except as he arises in the final installment of a triology/short novel addressing these themes. If he and I move to work together on his book I know I would act as an editor/proofer/reader. I am accustomed to serving as an editor and writers doing what I say (laugh). I am not sure how that works with most physicians. Many are weak writers but with generous egos. He is quite fixed (aqua venus/mars) but lovely, sometimes I sense a little frightened (pisces sun/cancer ascendant) and a good listener. As you may recall my Mars/Eros sits directly on the face of his Aries MC. And My Natal Chiron conjuncts his Chiron/Eros/Venus in the 8th House so there is room and years for this to play out. It has atlast dawned on me that it is and will continue to do so. I adore him in ways I find incredible --even life affirming, but my work is my work, my words my words, and the fact is a patient perspective is like no other. I do know that if my words come to fruition they will be ruffling, disturbing and maddening for some to hear--even in simple plain novel form. Amoroso you pointed out the POF in Venus. I am torn. I love my artisan work, but if I may be blunt with myself. Part of me feels awkward. I think is this enough for my life? I want to resonate for others, to do something affecting. I have done that in my past work--the artisan work I am not sure of and for it to become more lucrative I would have to make the leap. A large leap and throw myself in entirely. Then I think where would my writing go? My commitment will have been made, but will it be the right one? I don't know and even with Mercury in Retrograde something is telling me to concentrate faithfully on the writing. PS_-I left Erato and Lilith there because they seem to be saying something about the 10th house MC. Aesculpia the medical in house of communication. I think it is telling that three planets are in House 8. The writing I have done thusfar touches upon my mother's death, my miscarriage and the throat being cut--the two surgeries. Uranus and Neptune in the 3rd! Chiron in House 2 and Pluto in House 1. I am not certain I could have better telegraphed my issues. PSS -Juliet--It was Friday July 7 at 5:31 pm. Thank you.

Hey Blue-I do that ALL THE TIME! It is maddening!! People remind me to write in WORD then paste....good idea if I actually do it!! So sorry....these replies can take some time writing and it is frustrating to lose words so fast!! (Write for long periods only to lose it in a mere second!!) Grrr.... Just a further thought....the ladies above clarified my suggestion of things being doable and doing more than one option. As a native Gemini Sun and Mars, my dual nature is easily able to do more than one thing at a time...albeit not always 100% perfect!! (So GEMINI and doesn't 'everyone want to do more than one thing?' thinking!!) I tend to allow for the opportunity to consider doing more than one goal simultaneously yet also want to allow for options being done at varied time-tables. And of course, it goes without saying that choosing responsible options based on your circumstances will be part of the mix. Does this make sense? Amoroso did a great job with spelling out a few of the things she picked out. I liked the interpretations from the resource she was using. It was helpful to read that post and learn. Horary (IMHO) is not something to replace your deep intuition as Juliet stated. Your desires may be many, it just takes a bit of meditation and time to let the most desirable and doable ones rise to the surface!! I was reminded of how many times I ask a 'question' to myself or friends and want a clear answer when in reality, I DO know the answer deep inside....and are sometimes afraid of the answer. Afraid to try...afraid of failure.....afraid of consequences if I do this or don't do that. Pathetic at times yet part of the human psyche. Why not write a list of options/desires/goals. Anything you want. ANYTHING. GO back to that list and add or take the time to prioritize. Change things around every day if you want. Take the time to really consider all ideas. Set a time goal to begin the first one. Like: Begin to gather information about option #1 by September 1. Take baby steps....and do not be afraid to put it on the shelf if the path is not coming so easily at first....the time may not be right and you can come back to it! Other times the words will flow like a soft breeze and what would normally take months to write, can be written in 10 hours. You write, you know how that works!! Anyway.....I realize I am not adding to Horary on this thread....the other experts will offer better readings than I!! ;D Hugs- GemStar

[glow=red,2,300]Yes![/glow]
And yes, often times deep down we know already what we really want, Juliet is right.
Blue, writing you must. I have always thought of you as a writer/editor, it is so obvious... But it can be a part time commitment. I don't really see why the hesitancy. You don't have to make a public statement, hello, I am writing a book. All along you have probably been working at it. It seems to me more of a mental commitment rather than a time commitment, and as such can coexist with whatever other options you are considering.
And naturally, retro Mercury is a time to reconsider options, not to make decisions!
Amoroso, like Gem I was impressed with the resource you were using. Is it possible to get the name of this book by Ivy?

Dear BO, That Moon is actually in 1.
Also, something you wrote in your last post reminded me of something one of my friends once experienced. A Tau, married with two small kids at the time. She had a very satisfying and succesful career in writing about the humanities, and wrote children books as well. Then she fell in love with a painter. It almost cost her her marriage, and she was terribly torn and unhappy (feeling guilty) with the sexual side of it. Her husband too. Well, when she'd decided to end the relationship, she told me she had explored the reason why she'd fallen in love with that guy. It was a typical Eros matter. He had something she had to develop. I believe that's invariably true in love, our beloved are the persons they are, but they also symbolize parts of us. To make a long story short: she decided to learn how to paint, turned out to be a natural and is a rather successful artist now, sells a lot of her work, AND still writes. AND is still married.
The chart: your ruler Jupiter is just separating from a trine with Aescu-thingy in 3! Could that be the old plan of writing a book with and for doc, and not so much as an own erotic expression??
The next aspect of Moon will be a sextile to Chiron in the house of your talents. Since a sextile is action-oriented, the use of your talents will be a healing experience for you. This might not be about writing or studying or your business, but about using talent.
I love that interpretation of the houses, Amoroso! That is something I can relate to fully. Did you get it in Ivy's book?? We have a rather big English section in our library since there are lots of Anglophones in the city, but no Ivy there... It's an expensive book, but I'd love to buy it. Once I get a new job.
Almost all of us seem to have been very ill sometime, and multi-talented. Michelangela's.
Love to all, J

Hey BO,
Your Pars Fortunae is in the fifth with its cusp ruler as Mars. NOT Venus. Anything you do for others starts with a healthy house of "self's expression!" You seem to be misreading something there.
WH, the source I have been using is "Simplified Horary Astrology" by Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson. I also use Anthony Louis' "Horary Astrology Plain and Simple."
