Hi --
just wanted to see whether anyone else has thoughts on the strength of aspects between progressed charts/solar return charts to natal charts in synastry.
my current partner and myself have some interesting things going on in this regard: currently, her progressed sun is at 16 Taurus, conjunct her natal venus and conjunct my natal jupiter, both at 16 Taurus.
her progressed venus is at 12 gemini, conjunct her natal chiron and almost exactly opposite my natal moon at 12 sag
her progressed ascendent is conjunct my natal descendent at 24 capricorn, as well as progressed pallas at 27 capricorn --- and my solar arc progressed moon is also at 25 capricorn
her progressed juno is conjunct my natal moon
her progressed pallas is conjunct my natal ascendent
my progressed venus is conjunct her natal jupiter and trine her natal moon
in addition, her solar return chart for the upcoming solar return in april, has the ascendent almost exactly conjunct my sun.
thoughts on this?
best

Hello Dru, Welcome to the forum! I’d answer the question of strength of aspects from solar returns and progressions to natal charts in synastry with a YES! I find it insightful to look at these contacts and see just how deep the synchronicity of time, place, people and events can run. I recently read a chart for a woman who had Solar return Ascendant conjunct her progressed sun which was conjunct her sister’s Mercury. They were thinking about starting a business together. I said, “What a grand idea!” I always say that people are like permanent transits (which was embedding in my mine by the wonderful Richard Idemon)… We draw to us ‘bits of ourself’ in ways that are both subtle and sublime. The question is “how did our unconscious ‘know’ that in x amount of years such and such a progression would coincide with this return chart and the partner’s Sun right when we are about to start the new project or make the change?” Or, do we start the project, or make the change, because the ‘set of transits/progressions’ are ‘there’? It becomes a metaphysical problem. What it might mean in the moment though, is a practical investigation! That P.Sun/Ve on your Ju at 16 Ta is a great example. She has attracted some big energy to her Venus. What’s she planing to do with it? The return chart with Ascendant on your Sun suggest to me a part you might play an important part in her life that year…of course you are partners so you already participate with each other but I’d be curious as to which house the Solar return Ascendant represents in her Natal chart. So, if you sun is in Aquarius and she has Aquarius rising in her SR, then the house with Aquarius on the cusp in her Natal chart is the area of life that becomes of first house importance—and one that your ‘light’, distinction and energy will contribute to. Can you see ways that it might work out, on and inner and outer level? If it were her natal 2nd, perhaps bringing her own resources to the foreground, or developing latent talents would become activated. If it’s her 9th, you might be taking her on a holiday o/s or helping her study for a post-grad exam (or dealing with the in-laws) In some way, your participation with her in that area of life will enhance (or exacerbate) something she is developing in herself now. Comments? This is a great topic. Thank you. Kim

Thanks for your welcome!
Her solar return ascendant is in her first house. it is also of interest that the aries new moon next month is within one degree of her natal sun. my natal sun activates her first house. it is also significant, i think, that the placement of her solar return ascendant is at 7:29 aquarius, a matter of seconds away from my natal sun, which is also at 7:29 aquarius. this is also conjunct her natal eros at 7:59 aquarius. these are super tight conjunctions!
to be honest, i'm not sure what she is planning on doing with the 'venus' activation!! but i'm pretty sure that the presence of my jupiter in that degree is positive. i suppose i'd like to hear more thoughts on the nature of venus-jupiter conjunction in synastry, beyond the usual cookbook interpretations. i do know that it has been a highly positive interaction between us so far (even given that there are some majorly tricky aspects, such as pluto square sun, and saturn conjunct moon). i think that my jupiter triggering her venus and being involved with that progressed sun may also have something to do with how we met (i used to teach her at university) and our considerable age difference... but then HER saturn is closely (3 degrees) conjunct MY moon, and HER jupiter is very tightly square (less than half a degree) my moon. so the roles are swapped when it comes to that. something to do with maturity and experience here i think, which must also involve that jupiter-venus as well. jupiter is prominent in the midpoint composite too, less than two degrees from the ascendant in the first house.
that critical 16Taurus degree also activates my natal chart strongly, as it is part of a grand trine in earth involving jupiter-uranus/pluto in virgo; juno, mercury/venus, pallas in capricorn; also with sextile to chiron in pisces, and opposition to neptune in scorpio which is itself sextile uranus/pluto, trine chiron and very tightly (less than half a degree) sextile mercury/venus! so i wonder what her progressed sun on her natal venus in that degree means there? is it also a coincidence that venus is, as i write, transiting that very same degree of 16Taurus?
other synastry between us is relatively strong, in that we have a large number of interaspects in the exact degree, with tight orbs. the venus-jupiter conjunction being the tightest. but there is also the very tight square of her jupiter to my moon (12 pisc-12 sag) and the (possibly) more problematic tight opposition between her mercury and my mars (28 pisces-28 virgo) --- which also received the full impact of the solar eclipse at 28 pisces and is currently undergoing the pressure of pluto square whilst stationing retrograde! her mars-moon opposition (9Capricorn-10Cancer) also hits my Sun/Moon midpoint at 10Capricorn... in fact her moon is very tightly opposed to it, by less than half a degree. Mars is strong in her chart, being in Capricorn in the first house, and her Sun's in Aries. She also has Capricorn rising with Moon in 7th.
however, what i would be most interested in finding more about is the long term implications of the progressed chart's synastry with the natal charts. what sorts of indications are there for a relationship in terms of the timing? what sort of development is indicated by these interactions?
i have found secondary progressions to be highly accurate in timing factors in the past (much more accurate than transits) and so i take this sort of thing seriously. but in the past this has always been related to a single chart. might the effects and implications be different when dealing with synastry?
your remarks on how the progressed/solar returns actually work with regards to events (a metaphysical problem!) is something i'll have to reflect on more, but i'm not inclined to go for any kind of causal explanation. i inclne more towards geoffrey cornelius' divinational approach to these things, which in the case of synastry is interesting, since then one can see two people interacting with one another as a kind of interpretation of each other's energies, 'triggering' them, so to speak, as one might experience in an extended session with an analyst. but that's another topic entirely...
