Hi all, I've been working with this asteroid for a couple of years - a lot of counseling with with clients, and some writing geared toward increasing our understanding of this influence and the true nature of evil. Yesterday I posted a first bit as a blog post, and thought some of you might be interested: tdjacobs.spiritcrossing.com/category/lucifer/if you post comments and reactions here, i'll do what i can to respond over the next week or so - i'm moving in a few days, but it seems time for this info to be shared so i'll make the effort to get back here.

Hi Tom,
A relative who lives in my city has an 8th house close Lucifer North Node conjunction. Her main concern with regard to my mother and myself is how much money is being spent. Instead of thanking me for my caring for my mother, she has hassled me about not working outside the home. She's under the mistaken impression that her inheritance will be reduced by mom's supporting me for caring for her. She has quite a temper. One day at her house she said the carrots weren't prepared properly and threatened to leave. She demands a luxurious lifestyle when her hard-working husband can't even pay all the bills. She also has a close Mars Saturn conjunction in Cancer, Scorpio rising and Pluto square Ascendant. Interestingly, the founder of quackery-promoting, savings robbing Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab was born within a day after she. A "psychic" fraud whose name I can't remember was also born on one of those two days.

hi kelly, regardless of other factors, i've noticed that people with lucifer on the north node don't think they get to serve something higher, that the abilities of the ego in the here and now are all that they have access to.
from the view of evolutionary astrology, stuff on the north node was farthest from us in the karmic past. and we can either be determined to finally have them, or believe we don't get to do it. i've seen lucifer on the NN in people who feel deep down abandoned by god - the feeling that they don't get to have a relationship with a higher spirit via choosing to serve it. and all kinds of factors in those other lives can contribute - the necessity of survival due to some calamity, being blocked by a powerful family figure or spouse, etc.
see if you can hear what she says and how she treats you/people as a statement of her emotional reality - it may make it easier to have compassion for her erratic and demanding behavior, which will take away the sting, no matter what she does.
i don't think this asteroid is the only factor that will lead to such behavior. for her, for example, she's likely got moon/cancer/4th house issues, too, and probably sun or mars stuff (aggression, etc.) lessons going on. and a point is that lucifer does not make anyone like this - the way people treat each other makes people like this. because this lucifer energy is also the energy of serving something higher. so her experience and conditioning are what she's telling the world about when she does stuff like you say.

Hi Tom, thank you very much for your interesting work, and sharing your insights. I've put it in the horoscopes of friends, family and other people I know and have their data, and am very confused about what I found: in practically every horoscope I saw Lucifer is conjunct to some planet, axes or nodes. This is not supposed to be a coincidence I guess, they are just too many. I would really love to know more about Lucifer, it seems to be of high importance, when I see how many people have it placed extraordinarily. Most often I found Lucifer-Pluto and Lucifer-Saturn, then with Mercury, Venus, Sun, Moon, Vertex, AC, MC, Mars. A man, who is always looking for the ideal partner and not able to get determined to someone, has it conjunct Mars/Pluto/Uranus in 7. It's interesting to see that in my brothers and my horoscope it is not at a special point (but our Lucifers are conjunct), while our father has it conjunct sun/saturn, and our mother conjunct venus and square moon/nn. Did you find that it can be somehow 'solved' in families? Tom, I wonder if you could give an example of a concrete interpretation, just to get a feeling for this asteroid? For instance, my fiancee has it exactly conjunct his moon (cancer/12). What could this mean? EDIT: I just wanted to check it in synastry, and found it with my fiance to be a double Lucifer-Saturn conjunction, pretty close. Oh well ;D Have you ever checked it in synastries? Thanks and greetings, kukuschka

I have read Tom's interesting article now and that led me to further googling and I like ids-mormon.com/lucifer.shtl which is not a Mormon site as such maybe a critique of Mormon thought? I certainly found it uplifting and all your relatives with strong Lucifers not to mention me can breath a sigh of relief I have always thought Lucifer would be a nice name like Jennifer had it not got those connotations.......................

hi kukuschka, lucifer conjunct a planet will add the flavor of learning ego maturity to the function of that planet. lucifer always adds questions that we will then answer in our behavior, as explorations of the lucifer questions - because there are no preset answers, we must learn by our choices what's right for us. a good approach for lucifer in practical applications is that it represents the voice of doubt in each of us. independent of our actions (whether we choose to do what we know is good or choose the opposite), lucifer has us questioning ourselves. this voice of doubt has us asking ourselves if we are doing good or bad...in the best cases, it's a natural voice that can help us keep ourselves in check.
conjunct mars: the function of will and assertiveness will have mixed into it questions about the right use of will. randomly putting it in the 6th house: questions about the right use of will and assertiveness (mars) will come out in 6th-house activities - the questions can be about how things get done, the details of routines of the person's life, the sense of responsbility and duty. do i use my assertiveness toward bad ends? do i manipulate my coworkers because of what i can get out of them?
conjunct venus: the function of values and relating will have mixed into it questions about the right use of values and relating. randomly putting it in the 3rd house: the choices of relationships (venus) as tools for explorations and expressing curiosity about the world (3rd house) will be influenced by the voice of doubt - do i use them for bad ends? do i use my relationships to use people to get the info i want?
and if it's a theme in a family, it means that the family members are all learning to question the right use of some function of themselves. it's not about solving in a family, but about the family members as individuals learning the right use of ego related to the planet it's aspecting.
i try to stay away from taking stuff out of context of real charts, so i'm not commenting on the examples you offered.
that might not be as specific as you wanted, but stay tuned for more. signing up for my mailing list through my site is a good way to stay up with whatever lucifer info i'm offering.
since lucifer is how we can keep ourselves from choosing the good, in synastry it's the influence we can use to keep each other from choosing the good.
and ana, you're fine! there's nothing bad about any lucifer placement. the only bad stuff is what we choose to do with it because we're exploring our own answers. and then, at that level, the level of the soul journey, there's no such thing as bad! it's all just experience.

Thanks for this Tom Very helpful I have it conjunct Mars and Uranus in Gem in 1 but Saturn con Toro in Cancer in 3 I was a tongue tied nervous wreck most of my young life but found outlets for my energies in art and writing and counselling and doing therapies I do know I am okay really I do Tom Trouble with typing is you cant see the mood stuff is written in So do you have issue regarding good use of creativity and ....whatever then with the Sun?

i think with the sun, one tends to doubt the use of the ego, and the goodness of the sense of self (if i really bring this out, if i'm really me, will i make good choices?). in my case, if i really start scorpio-ing, the voice of doubt kicks in and asks if i'm doing it for the right reasons. this comes out in relationships of various kinds, when people find out how intense i am and watch me hold things back. i crave deep connection but at times hold back until i'm sure i'm on the right track.
and yeah, i'd say a good use of creativity can be an issue that gets questioned - wherever i put myself into things wholly is where the questions can come up.

Mine is in the house of religion, and of course the whole theme of Lucifer, ie Satan was the dominant theme overruling the love of God with the more right wing side of my family and always there as a weapon, I suppose, with the more liberal side, one minister on each side of the family. During and after my Uranus opposition I was led on a quest to delve into the original language and history, along with mastering tarot, numerology and astrology. Grandpa would roll over in his grave, but he never approved of much of anything.
Mine is opposing Neptune and Venus, trine Pluto, square Chiron. Only asteroids, fragments, inhabit my 9th. But my very important Mars/Jupiter is there with Amor at critical 13Aries. That masculine pair are the rim of my bowl chart with only the nodes beyond, adding a strong edge as my cup overflows.
How interesting to discover that satan is Hebrew for adversary, the opponant, which fits Saturn so well, but only until we've passed his test. Then he becomes our Lucifer, the bright shining illuminater of truth. The final chapter of the New Testement quotes Jesus claiming to be the bright morning star, Lucifer, Venus when she rises before the Sun. They say the early bird catches the worm.

Hey Aquarian......sounds like you could get a wonderful family saga book or film out of your family history Maybe that is how you have such energy in your writing I was musing about the thing of chosing to be in the Light or not with the Lucifer placement One of the reasons I am not the most famous cartoonists in the universe is I have a very strong feeling to try and be funny without demeaning anyone or being cruel That would be the Lucifer sitting on the Mars/Uranus conj in 1st house I guess It is square Merc in Virgo and that square can incline one to be quite sarcastic and bitchy given the chance I think I learnt to tone it down from doing a charicature of a social worker where I worked before I was published She was quite devastated by it She was a wonderful drama queen But even drama queens need respect for their feelings

Wow, what a challenge, to be funny without hurting anyone's feelings. We all have been funny to the point of ridiculous at some time or another. If we could only learn to laugh at ourselves then we wouldn't be hurt so easily.

my "Living Myth" column for august is on lucifer - "For the Love of God." it's at thecosmicpath.com, scroll down below the daily forecast till you see my name. in short, i view lucifer's rebellion as is as much about service as his service. i also include a brief discussion about what evil actuall is, which differs from what we've been told it is. the article goes into this, by going into samael's story. samael is an archangel in the hebrew tradition - the jews' fallen angel. when he is modified by the christian tradition into the character we know as lucifer, things significantly change. we thereby lose the part of the story that unlocks how we experience this archetype inside us. peace, tom
