So we have 12 planets instead of 9 and Ceres is one of those planets. No longer considered an asteroid what kind of impact does this have on astrology? Any thoughts???

Probably a big one. It isn't everyday that there are planets added to the solar system! Since Ceres is about how we give and receive nurturing, maybe there will be a greater amount of people that get in tune with that aspect? I find there is a greater need for nurturing in the world now.

personally speaking, i use bodies when the archetypes are coming at me - sitting in front of me asking questions in the form of a person looking for counseling. i don't make disctinctions between planets and asteroids much; i just work with the stories as they're playing out in a person's life. all this talk about the definition of a planet seems like noise to me, to tell the truth.
though i get that the larger community, the culture, will probably feel differently, but hey, they need to have their worldviews shaken up a bit.

Actually, Ceres hasn't regained her throne just yet. With the definition of a planet that is being proposed in Prague, she will be promoted, but the vote isn't until Aug. 24, next week. If the proposal is approved there will probably be more that 12, more lie 53 according to Mike Brown, discoverer of UB313. He has the proposal on his site.
I'm really exiced about the prospect. I've already begun a page for my website on the possible new family.

I am a big fan of Ceres Just like the sound of the word Tho I am gluten intolerant.....must be that Pluto sq to it in my chart.......Or as we now have to say Pluto/Charon square to Ceres..... In my mind's eye the little Ceres glyph in my 6th has puffed up 3 font sizes, full of self importance

9 planets? We have Sun, Moon (okay those are luminaries, but in astrology they count as planets), Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Which one isn't a planet then? Ceres a planet? ... I have Sun @ 3° Cancer, Ceres @ 6° and Mars @ 10° Cancer... so all this male energy (sun & mars) is stuck in one of the most female signs, not good for a man...
And we have to have two planets who rule a sign, as Mercury is ruler over Gemini & Virgo... and Venus Taurus/ Libra....
I think Ceres fits well with Taurus or Virgo... But Vulcan is good with Virgo, i guess we could put Ceres with Taurus...

Hi everyone, I wouldn't count the planets just yet! Oh, Waterman, the 9 bodies designated as planets by the International Astronomical Union are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. The bodies that would be 'elevated to planetary status' instantly if the proposal passes (IF) are Ceres, Charon (the binary of Pluto--not one of the moons) and the yet to be named Kuiper belt object 2003UB131. However, there is uproar from astronomers on the IAU's tabled proposal. I'm keeping my links updated to these events (see my main page '100's of New Planets'). www.falconastrology.com At this point, we don't know which way the dice will roll. The bottom line is, the designation of the IAU is not necessarily going to coincide with astrological significants. Many astrologers, including myself, plot asteroids in the chart and most would acknowledge some import to the first 4 discovered—Ceres being #1 and will continue to do so regardless of the IAU’s view. 2003UB131 is so distant, like Sedna and Quaoar, that it would be quite a generational body (2 and 3 times as distant as Pluto!) If the proposal passes, there could be 100’s of ‘official’ planets. Check the link from my articles to Michael Brown’s page describing ‘what the solar system would look like’! The decisions being made now are important, though I don’t think they are going to ‘change’ they way we read charts! Perhaps it will only distance astronomy and astrology further? Kim

Honestly I think Ceres is, I've always thought I had moon in Leo in the 9th house, which is where I recently learned my Ceres is. And it's very similar to the moon energy.

To be quite honest, I think i'll stay working with the ten whe know, and some asteroids (Eros, Juno, Ceres, ...) Those are the most important... Quouar conjuncts my Saturn in 3... Sedna is added to my Taurus stuff (Venus, NN, psyche, Lilith, pholus and pallas), Ceres to my Cancer stuff (Sun, Mars, Pan Horus, Mercury) And i try to implement the UB 2003 thing into my astro.com chart, but it doesn't show

There is a little mystery in my life that knowing about Ceres has cleared up........ I had a Dave in my life. Whenever I cooked for him I made a mess of it I had no confidence I felt stupid Whenever I cooked for my friend Stasu I made lovely food effortlessly...... With other people I was just normal average cook Then I had a daughter by Steven much later For my sons I am a reasonable cook For my daughter it got so bad when the boys left home that she and I cooked separate meals as I had no confidence cooking for her alone and she did not like anything I cooked I could never understand it til Ceres came along Dave has his Saturn right on my Ceres Sara has Saturn right on my Ceres too Stasu had his Sun right there If it crosses over to sex too I got it wrong as Stasu was just a friend and Dave and I had a child together and then split up but are still friends Anyone else ever noticed anything similar with Ceres It is in my 6th but I don't see how that ties up.

Since i'm a student in another city, i love to cook... But i don't do that often... But everyone compliments me with my cooking skills... May be the Sun/ Ceres/ Mars in Cancer is fitting in to that...

Ceres is the godess of nurturing, motherhood and agriculture. Ceres is the Romanised version of the Greek Godess Demeter. She is an acient Goddess that is theorised to originate at least 20,000 years ago (one of the oldest cults and deities). She is the godess of Earth, agriculture and Grain. When I think of Earth and Grain I think either Virgo or Taurus. The term cereal originates from the term of ceres the staple food supplied from agriculture. The Greeks related Demeter (Ceres) to the Egyption Godess of Isis. Virgo might be the go because she represents the pregnant virgin maiden holding sheaf of wheat. Virgo I think is as motherly as Cancer. Remember the Virgin Mary an excellent example of duitiful motherly figure who was the mother of christ (Pisces). The first Goddess statues were that of pregnant Earth or Moon goddesses. Most Virgoan people I know are yes practical but very humane, intuitive, family oriented and devoted to their children. Taurus could be a good match as well; but the symbolism of a virgin holding a sheaf of wheat symbolises Ceres more strongly. So I think it is likely it rules Virgo.
I have Ceres at the end of the 11th house cusp in Aquarius 29.1 deg square Chiron in Taurus in the 3rd and opposite my Moon in Leo in the 5th house, sextile neptune, sextile pluto, sextile jupiter and sextile sun!
I think it represents our practical roots with your social environment with nature and people close to us.

I think you're right, Brenten. I have her in the 3rd and I find myself often relating nature to things in conversations I have. I tend to see the macrocosm in a flower or in the growth process of a plant.
